The Ramsay House was built in 1789 to Thomas and Mary Ramsay. It housed the Ramsay's until 1943. Afterward it was abandoned and left to rot under the heat of the Pacific sun. It stands with three stories, twelve bedrooms, two kitchens, four family sitting rooms, a 'hospital' room, a carriage arrival garage, a groundskeeper estate, an unfinished attic, one library and dining area, a tea room and sewing room, a study, and a marble staircase at the heart of the massive structure. It is currently occupied by the Quinton family since 1987.*****

"the fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose"
THE road there was forever: a line straight south from northern Connecticut. But the ride was dramatically different than how she had imagined it. There was less argument. Lucille had taken her children from their sheets and rushed them into the back of the Volkswagen, driving them fourteen straight hours to her home state of Newton, Georgia, in the blackness of the night.
This had always been the plan. Lucille couldn't remain there in her life in Connecticut anymore. Her life with Michael. She wanted to go home where her parents were and her friends were, but the move wasn't supposed to be until the summer. It was the heart of November. The children didn't know... They had no idea this move was happening until Lucille dragged them out of their beds and pushed their sleeping bodies into the back of the car.
Michael's money had purchased the southern manor and his money would carry them through the rest of their lives, but each purchase felt as if she was giving a piece of him away as if his money somehow kept him alive. She couldn't stop feeling him next to her... his side of the bed was so empty. Sometimes Aurora slept there; Lucille slept better then. The dog fooled her into thinking that he was there and the bed wasn't so cold in the night. But that illusion couldn't last forever. Everything needed to change. Changed in seconds, actually... It only took seconds for her to decide.
Late Last Night...
Her head was rested upon the pillow atop her mattress. Staring woefully up at the black lights stationed above the bed. Her canine companion was stretched across the length of her body. Aurora’s sweet brown irises were pierced upward as she looked to her person with a whimpering sympathy. She, too, felt the emptiness that this bed possessed and that was her purpose for sleeping there all these nights. With her person. On his side of the bed.
Two fingers stroked at Aurora’s spine. Dazed and lost, Lucille suddenly found herself on her feet. She sprang across the floor, coated herself with a bathrobe and slipped on a pair of boots that had been sprawled in front of the door. Hurried and fixed, she started to throw her belongings into a slew of bags she had stashed about the bedroom.
She doesn’t remember how or when, but somehow her belongings found themselves in the back of the Volkswagen; and then she was up the stairs and startling her children awake, pressuring them to quickly gather their things and head outside. She had started with Damon, who in turn woke up Nikolai. The two would offer help to the next: Catalina and Akila, while Lucille put her heart into shaking the littlest Quinton’s from sleep.
Nevaeh was the last to wake, cosied under her covers with the window blowing soothingly over her cheeks. By the time Lucille had reached her bedroom she had Elsie in one arm and Theia’s hand in the other’s grip. ‘Whispering’ loudly to stir her teenager, Lucille had the covers pulled away until Nevaeh slumped out of bed. Nevaeh was the fastest. She gathered her things and followed her mother out of the room, picked up her littlest brother, Elliott, and dragged her suitcase down the staircase and out into the yard where the car was waiting for them, all doors propped open in anticipation.
Now...
Looking back in the rear mirror, now, Lucille saw eight of her children all sprawled across the backseats. Most of them had fallen asleep. It had been dark when they left and now it was starting to get dark again. The drive was so long and so quiet. The littlest of the Quinton's were curled up against the oldest: Elliott wrapped around Nevaeh and Elsie balled up against Damon's hip. Catalina had her head pressed against Nikolai’s shoulder as his eyes glazed over the road outside. Little Akila had his elbow propped up on the window and his chin drooped down to the floor as his head bobbed with the motion of the vehicle. The strangest out of them all was her twelve-year-old daughter, Theia, who sat in the front seat with her eyes straight and her hands crossed over her lap.
She thought about speaking. She thought about saying something to her confused children, but she had no idea where to start. She wasn't even sure she knew what she was doing... It was too late, anyways, because she pulled up to the open gate at the Ramsay House. There was no turning around now.
Lucille paused at the wheel, pulled over to the side and looked up at the large cobble stone structure and sighed. "Wake your siblings." She was talking to Theia in the front seat. "Don't leave your stuff in the car." She never made eye contact. She stretched from the car and started towards the door. The lights were off and the doors were closed. The house was not ready to receive the Quinton family.

Damon was awoke by his mother to help get the others up. He really did not feel like moving from his nice warm bed. It was very late out that he could tell. He put his things in to his bags and brought them to the Volkswagen. As they started to leave the house one of his siblings had fell asleep on his hip as he stared out the window to who knows where they where going. Pulling up to a house Damons mouth hung open in aww. "Dont leave your things in the car." Said their mother. So Damon went to the back of the car and grabbed his things as he walked up to the house that was now going to be their new home.
Catalina was awoken by her brother Damon. Her bed was very warm and she was very sleepy. She had no idea where they where going or why but she did as she was told. She pack all of her belongings into a few bags and carried them out to the car. She then got in and they where off. All she did was wonder were they where going and why. As she thought about this she watched the scenery change to unfamiler terrain. Then the car stopped and she was infront of a big house. She stared up at it and then her moms words floated into her ears. "Dont leave your things in the car." She went around to the trunk and grabbed her bags as she waited for the rest of her family.

AKILA Akila was never an easy riser. He hated being awoken in the morning for school or for anything for that matter. However, in this case, he was relieved to be awoken, for doing so interrupted his terrifying nightmares. Ever since his father died, Akila's dreams had been plagued with horrible images. He wasn't stupid - he knew his father had committed suicide by hanging himself (he overheard some adults talking at the funeral home), but he hadn't actually seen his dad's body when it had been discovered that terrible morning. He had seen him during the viewing, but the sight of the corpse made his stomach rebel. His father had been dressed nicely with a higher collar to cover the bruising the noose had left on his throat. Even though he knew that the people at the funeral home had done their best to make Micheal Quinton look as he had in life, the skin was shades off, and he had smelled of cold fridge and chemicals. He wished had hadn't looked - not only because that was the last image he had of his father, but because seeing the body had been fuel for this nightly terrors.
The ten year-old would awaken in a cold sweat at night - his chest rising and falling much too quickly as he struggled to breathe and control his racing heart. In his dreams, he would walk alone in the funeral home and instead of seeing a relatively unmarked corpse, his father would be a rotting grotesque skeleton with spiders and centipedes and other creepy crawlies scuttling over the decaying flesh. Sometimes, his father's corpse would speak to him. Mostly, it was scattered memories of Akila remembering his father's praise. Other times, his father cursed him and said he was not his son.
Again, he wasn't stupid. Akila had known since he was about four or five that he was adopted. Though neither of his parents had ever said it, Akila always had the nagging suspicion that he was loved just a little less than his adopted siblings. He was very obviously not related by blood, but to his knowledge, his parents had treated him the same as the ones that were born from Lucille. Akila also had the gift for having gut feelings when people lied to him. It wasn't a perfect instinct, but he could usually rely on it. He was loved.
Those misgivings of where he belonged made worse his nightmares. He always felt a little out of place in the family, but he loved his parents and siblings unconditionally. He helped take care of his younger siblings, Elliot and Elsie, by helping them learn how to read. Their nanny, Juliana, was a loving if not strict woman who cared for all of them. She had been brought into the family when the twins were born. Akila adored her, too, and saw her as an aunt more than a nanny. Maybe it was because she hadn't been there the entire time he'd been around the Quintons, but he never got the idea she loved him even less. She scolded and praised him as often as she would the others. He still feared her steely-eyed glare. He had nightmares about Juliana rejecting him, too, but not as often. Losing his father had left a hole in Akila's heart.
So, when his brother, Nikolai, awoke him in the middle of the night and told him to pack up and move, he was half relieved to be free of his nightmares for the moment and half annoyed at being awoken at all. He packed his suitcase with clothes, his favorite books, and some toys before clambering into the vehicle with his brothers and sisters. He settled on a window seat and was soon asleep. Sure, it was very strange for Lucille to move them like this, but he had been too tired to do more than blindly follow her and his siblings to the car. He had glimpsed Juliana packing up her things in her own smaller car in the street. She was coming, too, naturally.
Akila dozed, lulled to sleep by the sounds of the car's engine. He only awoke a couple of times to use the bathroom at stops. Other than that, he slept. Maybe that had been the solution to his sleepless nights - car rides. The motion acted like a babe in its cradle - rocking him slowly - while the rumble of the engine was like a soothing cat's purr. Finally, the car stopped. The motion jerked his arm out from under his cheek. He blinked groggily before looking around. His mother was speaking to Theia, but he was already gripping the door handle. He pushed the door open, unbuckled his seat belt, then dropped out of the car.
In the early morning light, the house reminded Akila of a castle from a fairy tail. Maybe a princess was supposed to live here. Or a monster that guarded ancient treasure. The house looked as if it hadn't been lived in for a long while. The house gave Akila the shivers, even if it was impressive. He moved around the back of the car and grabbed his suitcase before wheeling it over to Nikolai and the younger twins. His dark eyes scanned the house with suspicion and apprehension. The hair on his scalp was tingling. Something was off about this place.
"This is where we live now?" he asked, yawning sleepily and looking up at his older brother with droopy eyelids. Even though he had spent most of the trip napping, he still felt the weight of weeks of emotional turmoil. That happened after losing a parental figure while wrestling with your own guilt. "This place gives me the chills," he mumbled more quietly, his chocolate-colored eyes darting away from the mansion to look back towards the fountain beside them.

Hearing Akila voice his opinion on the whole matter that was happening Damon heard him speak "this is your house?" Damon looked down at him after gawking at the large building and said. " i guess so. Creepy aint it." He simple said. He could see the other siblings getting out of the car now as he and Akila stayed by the front looking at the whole place. He then saw his brother look away to a fountain. Damon kept looking at the building in front of him. Was this really where they where to grow up at and live the rest of their lives at?
As he started to go closer to the building he began to feel a coldness take over him. He did not know what it was but it mist of been somthing about the house that set him off. It looked grim and not lively at all. Where people even allowed to live in this place? Surely not. It looked condemned. Who knew what would be inside the strucher of the place. Who had lived here before they arrived? What had happened to make them leave and never return?
Damon looked to his sister Catalina and said. "Do you think it is safe to live in this house it looks.....OLD." He said giving her a odd look on his face like he always did when his humor side came out.
Catalina smiled and laughed at her brother Damons question. "Im sure mother would not bring us here if it was not liveable Damon. Cut her some slack... She is doing the best she can do as a single parent now that dad is gone... You best be sure to remember that the next time you have a question like that again." She said as she walked away from him a little upset by his choice of words.

Trees. Endless trees. That's all that Nikolai could make out through the window where he sat in the backseat. The darkness of the night made it difficult to really make anything out of the scenery rolling by outside. The only thing he knew for sure was they were no longer in their hometown, they were no longer in Connecticut. Nikolai bit his lip in annoyance, perhaps he felt grumpy from his sleep deprived mind. He struggled to make sense of things. A quick glance around and he knew most of his siblings were sleeping soundly, going along blindly with what they were told to do. But Nikolai questioned everything. When he was awoken by Damon who told him to get up and pack his things, then wake up the others, he had jumped out of bed and hurried to do what he was told. Perhaps it was instinct after what they went through with their father, but Nikolai automatically assumed something was seriously wrong. Maybe someone was really sick and they had to go to the hospital? It wasn't until they were all piled in the car and on their way that common sense started to penetrate his sleep fogged mind. Why did they all have to go? And why did they have to bring all their stuff?! As his suspicions began to take root, he realized their mother was moving them to someplace else. His expression was stony as he stared unseeingly out the window. Most of his siblings were blessedly asleep and unaware. Nikolai fought sleep. He tried to anyway. He caught himself several times with his head lolling back against the seat until the car hit a bump and he was jolted back awake, where he'd turn his head to look out the window and try to figure out where they were. Trees. And we're back to the endless trees. He and Nevaeh just had their birthday earlier in the month, on the 5th of November. They turned sixteen. Why the hell does no one ask for my opinion on things?! I'm not a child anymore! Still he sat in grumpy silence with his arms crossed and refrained from breaking the silence of the car ride. It was the longest ride he could ever remember, but they finally came to a stop in front of an old house. His mother finally spoke, "Don't leave your things in the car." She kept her eyes averted and didn't make eye contact with any of her children. Nikolai gave a snort and shoved open his door in his haste to exit the cramped vehicle. He stood and stretched his aching limbs while he took a long glance at the house. It looked like an old tourist attraction. This was their new home? He turned slowly in a circle with his hands linked on top of his head. It was still pretty dark, hard to make out anything, but he knew they were surrounded by a lot of land. They were in the middle of nowhere. He let out a long exasperated groan. "Where the hell are we?!"

Luco Quinton It was still dark out. The university student was in the passenger seat, his head resting against the cold window. He was almost sleeping with his eyes open, looking out to the trees passing by the road. Music was playing softly inside the car. There was an untold silence between him and his friend in the driver seat. Juandre is doing him a huge favoor taking him all the way to the new town. He had woken his friend the instant he received the call from his mother, and his roommate, without question, got up and offered to take him. He kept his eyes outside. “You sure about this, bro?” an uncertain voice broke the silence just before Luco had the chance to drift off. A pressured sigh escaped from his chest before gathering the voice to speak. “Yes.” He was certain. He knew what he was losing and what he was gaining. He was losing his scholarship at the university. They don’t even know he left the campus. They’ll find out when the sun rises and he’s absent from all his classes. But his family needed him and it was more important to him than anything else. He was sure, although he knew he would soon regret leaving before getting his qualification.
Soon enough they had arrived. The two men sat up straight in the car, looking out towards the house right in front of the car. It was old and huge… but it was not impractical. Luco just had to crack a smile when he saw movement inside the gates, loads of different aged kids scrambling around the car. They must have just arrived before them. He breathed in deep, said his goodbyes to his buddy and university roommate, and stepped out of the car. He could hear the vehicle behind him pulling back and going down the road. He walked through the open gates to the old mansion. He only had one target – the car that had kids popping out as long as he walked closer. There was a warm feeling about it even if it was cold. He was tired and he was pretty sure it was the same case for the rest of them. He had not seen them in nearly two years. He had grown to his limit and he was longing to see how big the rest of the squad had gotten. His approach was a bit nervous. What if they didn’t recognize him? He had been gone for two years…
His mother looked the most tired of all. Tired of driving, tired of thinking how to explain this. And, of course, she was the first one he wanted to approach. She was, after all, the main reason he came all this way…
Here it is! Not as impressive as yall's but I could not resist xD

Whatever conspired the previous night had gone unmentioned throughout the entirety of the trip. No one, not even Theia, brought up the fact that they had been in the car for fourteen hours and that they had left in the middle of the night, skipped breakfast and lunch to be here at this strange house as the sun was setting... again. It wasn't until the vehicle had stopped and Lucille spoke her first words... her first words in the last fourteen hours. "We're never going back, are we?" Theia asked with no hope of a clear answer. She knew the answer. She knew that this was their home and there would be no going back. Not now. Not ever.
Theia didn't wake the rest of her siblings like her mother asked. They were already moving when she got out of the car and joined the others at the back. She got her things and nothing else, shuffling across the stoney driveway until she was one step behind her mother, sulking as she reached the door. "Do you even have a key?" Theia muttered with her arms crossed and her eyes rolling. "How the hell are we supposed to get in?" Her voice was demanding and somewhat rude, but her attitude should've never been expected to be anything less. That was how Theia talked. She was straightforward and never kind where perhaps she should've been. The twelve-year-old looked towards the door and then glanced behind her as the other Quinton's started making their way to their backsides. The youngest were trailing behind, looking up and down and all around in such curiosity and confusion that only a mother could soothe. Good luck... Theia thought to herself. Lucille wouldn't help them now. Not now. Not ever.Word Count :: 320

The smallest and most delicate of all the Quintons has fallen asleep with her head pressed up against Damon's thigh for all fourteen hours of the trip. She snorted with the bumps of the vehicle as it rolled along the grooved roads. Until she felt that vehicle come to a slow roll on cobble foundations, Elizabeth Margaret Quinton had moved a hair the entire ride.
Stretching at last when Damon's soft exterior left her head, Elsie lifted her gaze to the window only to find that the scenery had changed completely. She popped up with limbs firm against the seat and eyes bugging out in pure and utter confusion. The other Quintons slipped into view as they all had started to gather behind her mother while Elsie was still sitting in the car without the will to move.
"W-wait-- wait for me!" Elsie cried in a sudden panic as she quickly escaped the tin trap and snatched her things that had been thrown to the ground, running to catch up to either her mother or one of the oldest. She was quick to reach for a hand, uncertain of who's it was she grabbing.
She had to stretch up on her toes to see over the sea of much taller Quintons and the view wasn't much in answering all of her undying questions. "Where are we?" She asked the air in hopes that one of the other seven would be able to answer her question. In her experience, being five left her with little to no information on the facts and figures of this family. She had hoped someone taller and wiser would have the answers she desperately sought.
The littlest one was waiting for an answer for when another rolling noise came from behind. Her ears perked back and she jerked her head around to see another vehicle, beat up and worn out, pull into view. She had no interest at first until she saw a blonde-headed figure emerge from the passenger side.
She gasped! "Luco! It's Luco!" Elsie nearly jumped out of her own skin, pulling away from whoever's grip had her locked, dropped her things to the dirt (except for her purple bunny who would NEVER, ever touch the ground) and ran at full speed until her body collided with Luco's torso. She wrapped her arms and legs around him and buried her face into his stomach. "You're here! You're home! You're home..." She cooed as her face buried deeper into him. She hadn't seen Luco since her father's funeral and even then she had barely talked to him. No one had talked that day. Not even Theia, who also had something to say.

HARDSHIPS PREPARE ORDINARY PEOPLE FOR EXTRAORDINARY DESTINY
Nevaeh had fallen victim to inevitable slumber like the littlest of Quintons and found her head thumping against the pane of the window until her temple smashed against the glass and awoke for the last time in those fourteen desperate hours. In her sleep, Nevaeh hadn't noticed that the youngest of the little Quinton twins was curled around her lap and her hand was wrapped around him protectively, her fingers in the curl of his hair. She stretched from his touch and followed the rest of the Quintons out of the car. She took her stuff out of the back and went back to scoop up Elliott. "Come on, Elli." Nevaeh whispered as his head slumped against her shoulder. Nevaeh threw her brother up higher on her hips and reached her siblings just as Lucille had approached the door. Her figure stopped behind her best friend, her twin brother, Nikolai as he muttered a disgruntled comment directed towards their shared mother. "Don't look now, brother, but I think this is our new home." Nevaeh's eyebrow quirked upward in an obvious taunt as she took the opportunity to cast Elliott's things into Nikolai's hands. She surpassed him then until she found herself the leader of the Quinton train. When Nevaeh reached the stairs her auditoriums were chimed with another unfamiliar noise and the sound of another vehicle arriving at the mansion stopped at the gates. From them emerged a figure that Nevaeh hadn't seen since their father died. Her interest was immediately deterred and she ignored the absent brother as he made his approach. "This better be a very cruel joke." Nevaeh mumbled to herself, although her brother was within earshot. Luco's sudden arrival hadn't been completely unexpected, but it wasn't wanted either. He wasn't there when their father died-- he wasn't there, but he acted as if he knew everything. Nevaeh couldn't stand to be told how grand life was by someone who didn't know what the hell they were talking about... Her dislike for her brother was obvious even among the dullest of the Quintons. Damon was still stuck in the same place his sister jad left him when she had said those words to him. He did not know how he should feel about it. He was lost for words at this point.
Once everyone was out of the car they started asking questions that they had about the matter. Then the chatting died down and a new sound was coming. It was another car. Who was it that was coming up the gravel. Once he looked at the body who stepped out he atomatically frowned. Putting on a very disappointed look. He turned his back away hoping he would not come up to him and tall to him. It has been 2 years since he left the family to go to the university. Why was he back now?
Catalina walked around making sure every one was fine and then she heard the gravel underneath a car. Someone was pulling up but who? She saw everyone running to the figure as they got closer and closer. Upon her being able to see who it really was she squelled and began to run at him. Throwing herself at him her arms wide open. "Oh My God Luco what are you doing back here? How was university?" She squeled at him smiling.

Elliott hadn't stopped shaking since he got in the Volkswagen. Even in his sleep, Elliott was caught in a shiver fit. He held his sister so tight that he wasn't sure he'd ever be able to let her go. He felt her heart beat in his ears and he held back his tears. Even in his sleep, Elliott could feel his tears wanting to soak through.
In the end, Elliott had fallen asleep and became numb to his surroundings. His sister had to pick him up out of the Volkswagen and carry him out to meet the rest of the household. Everyone else had sort of clustered around the door and followed their mother onto the front porch, except Elliott, who was still hiding behind his sister.
He was awake now, but he didn't want the others to know. He had been the most scared when he was pried from his bed and carried out to the car in his sister's arm. He hadn't left Nevaeh's arms for fourteen hours and he wasn't planning to anytime soon.
Elliott soaked into his sister's shoulder and pushed his nose into her neck. "Where are we, Neve?" He asked, voice timid and small, having to stop and breathe every word.
Elliott was close to his blood, but nowhere near as close as he was to his twin sister. When Elsie voice rang through the skies, Elliott popped his head up and looked back over Nevaeh's shoulder to see that his twin was running towards a disappearing car. When he looked closer he saw that she wasn't running towards the car, but the figure that had stepped out of the car--
Oh! Hold on! Elliott started to squirm out of Nevaeh's grasp as the figure became clearer and clearer. "Put me down! Put me down!" Elliott kicked his feet until she released him and the youngest of the Quintons took off running towards the newly cleared figure.
"Luco!" He screamed over and over again until he was right there with his sister, hugging his brother's legs and wrapping himself around Luco's whole body. Elliott was a tad smaller than Elsie, but he had just as tight a grip and his joy was uncontrolled despite the fear that he was shaking through only seconds before.
Without relinquishing his grip, Elliott looked up at his brother with eyes so wide that they might pop out of his head and a smile so pleasant that it could fool anyone into forgetting that they had only recently lost their father. "What are you doing here, Luco?" Elliott asked quietly, his lips starting to tremble. Was this all a dream? What if he left as soon as he came back?

"the fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose"
Her children were followed one at a time as the leader head of the house made a direct avenue for the front door. Lucille didn't wait for her children. She abandoned that route when she left her twelve-year-old daughter to inform them of their arrival. Instead of being the mother, Lucille walked to her own freedom in confidence of a bedroom that didn't still reek of her deceased paramour.
Behind her came snickers of childish questions. She wasn't convinced that this travel wasn't entirely wasted, but her children's desperate questions reminded her that she didn't have the answers to calm them. How does she inform them-- the Quintons were there because father was dead and this was their mother's response to sorrow? Escape and denial.
She was immediately distracted with the sound of wheels screeching against gravel. Her head turned back to the drive in time to witness the vehicle that ditched her eldest child at the irons. He was bombarded with instant affection from the smallest of Lucille's children. Her heart melted at the sight of her golden-headed son. But as instant as her heart warmed it fell frozen again. "Good boy..." She humbled herself with the light that illuminated around her son and the sudden affectionate that followed him at the lead of the smallest children.
She didn't dare interrupt the love fest happening at the end of the drive so the mother returned to the structure in front of her. There would be time for a reunion when the others had settled into their rooms and sat down to a warm dinner.
Lucille reached for the handle. Giving it a small tug, the tired mother pried the door wide and allowed for the cool air to settle over her cheeks. "Rooms are all ready assigned. No fighting." Lucille's first words to her herd as a whole; except when she opened the door she hadn't expected there to be another smaller scale family inside.Word Count :: 364 addressed: everyone mentioned: Luco, victoria, oscar, olivia notes: Eh, but I was excited! tags: @derek Aquila Piper @aaka2013 @patch

"Don't look now, brother, but I think this is our new home." Nikolai felt his twin's presence behind him before she even spoke. He gave her a sour look but his mouth twisted in amusement at her comment. The two of them were fluent in sarcasm, it was practically their own language. "Home? Yeah right. Maybe for the Addams Family." he snorted a laugh. He carried the things Nevaeh shoved at him without complaint. If it had been anyone else, he would have told them to carry their own shit. He followed beside his twin sister as they approached the door where their mother and other siblings were congregating. The sound of a car had them turning their heads around. One Luco Quinton emerged from the passenger side of the car much to Nikolai's surprise. He was the last person he was expecting to see here. One sideways glance at Nevaeh and he could tell his sister was not pleased to see their older brother. She turned back around and dismissed him. Nikolai was surprised but mostly indifferent at Luco's arrival. He watched as the youngest twins ran and attached themselves to the eldest in a warm welcome. Nikolai turned back around as he heard Nevaeh mumble, "This better be a very cruel joke."Nikolai gave a small laugh again. "This whole thing is a joke." He gave an obvious impression of what he thought about being brought there. "I wonder why he is here?"
Perhaps their older brother Luco decided to come and help their mother out with the younger ones. Luco was the type that always thought he knew best. All Nikolai wanted was Luco to stay out of his way and leave him alone. He stood and waited for their mother to open the door to this strange new place. He wanted to get a good look around, but his body was starting to give out on him. He was exhausted. He wanted nothing more than to find his bed and crash for hours. Then maybe he could make sense of this place. Addressed: Nevaeh Mentioned: Luco Tags: Ellie @derek Piper @patch @aaka2013 @fez Notes: This is getting good lol

JULIANA The loyal nanny had followed Lucille and her offspring the entire 16 hour drive south. Not able to fit in their car, Juliana had taken her own smaller Chevy Camaro. In her backseats were everything she owned - mostly books and clothing. She also carried a sketch book, pencils, and oil paints. She often lost herself in her sketches when she had free time. With the way the Quinton children behaved, she rarely got such a break. Juliana had been hired shortly after the second set of Quinton twins had been brought into the world. At first, she had been an occasional babysitter, but her child care tasks had increased substantially after Micheal became ill. After he left the world of the living, she had moved in with the Quintons. She had barely settled when Lucille decided to uproot them.
Sure, Lucille had informed Juliana of the move, but it had been very last minute. Still, Lucille was her boss, and Juliana adored the children despite most of them being brats. She could usually quell them with her famous glare. She was small, yes, but Juliana Grey had a way of making even fully grown men wince and drop their eyes. The only thing that Juliana really feared were dogs. She gave the Australian Shepherd the Quintons had adopted a wide birth most of the time. Luckily, the dog sensed her feelings and respectfully returned the favor. That much credit could be given.
Juliana parked a few feet back from the Quinton family's then got out. She frowned as the children gathered around one another to complain. She gave the older twins a dark, warning look. Their mother was in the middle of morning her mate and needed to cope in her own ways. Had Juliana lectured her about how moving so suddenly was ripping the ground out from under her children? Yes. Did Lucille listen to her? No because her mind was made up. She needed a fresh start, and she obviously thought the children needed one, too. Juliana followed them here, of course. Thea had to say her bit. Juliana never knew why that one needed to be so snarly with her own mother. Juliana's mother would've beat her senseless if she had had such a tongue. The thought made her wince.
Shaking her head since the eldest of the children seemed to have taken upon themselves to shepherd the little ones, Juliana rolled her largest suitcase behind her and joined the other blonde woman at the entrance to the manor house. "Do you need help with anything?" she asked Lucille softly, her British accent laced into her words. The poor woman seemed to be struggling for normal function. Juliana pitied her but also wished she would grow more of a backbone for the sake of her brew.

AKILA Akila gulped and gripped his small suitcase with shaking fingers. He nodded to Damon before moving towards the younger Quintons. Thea, of course, wasted no time in being her blunt self. He frowned at her and shook his head before moving to hover beside Elsie and Elliot - the younger twins he had been looking out for half his life. They were so small and scared-looking. The middle siblings had their usual sweetness about them - grumbling about being moved here. Akila wasn't thrilled about being uprooted to abruptly, but at the same time, he needed to get out of their old house. It felt like a coffin in itself after their father's funeral. His nightmares on top of his new depressive episodes resulted in Akila losing weight and becoming more withdrawn. Even if the house gave him the creeps, a fresh start was something he welcomed.
Feeling smaller than normal, Akila moved away from his siblings and gripped his mother's arm with his free hand. He could sense she was troubled, and who could blame her? Akila's dark eyes scanned over his fairer siblings before he dropped his hand. He needed to suck it up. He was annoyed, sure, but he never was one to speak his mind too much unless he was curious about something. He heard his mother mumble something about them all having their own assigned rooms. Was this like assigned seats at school? The house looked big enough for them all to have their own rooms and then some.
Since no else had bothered, Akila went back to the car and leashed Aurora. The Aussie Shepherd was always sweet to him and a great listener when he needed to vent. He let her go potty in a bush nearby then lead her inside, following Juliana and Lucille. He would keep an eye on the dog, he supposed. His eyes widened when he walked into the foyer. Holy moly...! They were living here!? Sure, their house before had been big, but this was a new level of ginormous. He shivered and moved around the adults, Aurora's leash in one hand and his suitcase in the other. The dog was like an anchor for him. She kept him level for most of the time.

Damon walked into the house as he ignored his older brother Luco. Everyone was going inside to their rooms but Damon did not. He decided to take the time and study the place as he entered it. It was massive but no where near as big as thier fathers house that he grew up in. How did he miss it there already. He new he would have to go to his room one way or the other but right know he was not going to make a bee line for it.
Catalina was in aww as she studied the place inside. Bringing her bags with her as she examined the place before. She missed her other house missed that that was the only place left that their father was at last.

Elsie scoffed at her brother. He was a... what was that word that Theia had used one? Dick. He was a real dick. Elsie left the hall without another word to her brother. The brother who had galloped across the room to make a crude public scene at the back of the room. Dick.
The outside was cool. It was a nice fall morning, the morning before the sun had touched the clouds flat, it rested between the Earth and the blue, waiting for the roosters to rise and call it to the open. The grass was covered in dew and a light fog hugged the edges of the forest. It was beautiful there in the morning...
She was the only one out there that morning, but it wasn't one of her siblings that was waiting it was someone new, someone different. Elsie recognised the girl from last night; she was hovering around that woman with the poke-dot dress Elsie liked so much. She even looked like her; Elsie assumed them to be a mother/daughter duo.
Just as she went to say 'hello', Aurora came out of the trees with her muzzle covered in mud and her underbelly dipping with green water. The Shepard charged to the front door, knocking Elsie onto her bum, who jumped up instantly, because she was wearing a new dress. "Aurora..." The little girl pushed the dog off her and scrambled back against the wall.
The dog in turn ran after the other child in the front, who started to scream immediately. She kicked off the ground and ran to the far end of the porch, hopped up on one of the ledges and continued to scream. Elsie even thought she saw tears starting to spring from her eyes.
"Aurora!" Elsie shouted as she swatted the dog from the other girl. Aurora snapped her head back with her tongue flopping out of her mouth with every breath she took, before skipping off inside to make more chaos among the other Quintons.
Elsie acknowledged the other girl with a sorry smile and bowed her head, crossing her arms behind her back, and sighing. "Sorry... Didn't know you were scared of dogs." It wasn't too much of an apology, but it was more than most would get from a five-year-old Quinton 'brat'.

Akila was skulking beside the front door with his backpack until he heard a commotion outside - the sound of a little girl's high-pitched scream. Thinking it was Elsie, he threw himself through the door and hurried onto the front porch, looking around until he spotted Elsie, but she seemed fine. The scream had come from one of the house staff's children. He couldn't think of her name for a moment. Olivia? Yeah, that sounded right. The last twenty-four hours were a blur to him; he would be lucky if he remembered his own name during their first day of school.
He shook his head and joined the two girls. Olivia looked upset, so Akila glanced at Elsie, who was young and still learning to be sympathetic. Sort of. She could be a little stand-offish with strangers, Akila knew. Not wanting Olivia to feel bad about what happened or worse if she was that afraid of dogs, Akila shrugged off his bag and knelt in front of the blue-eyed girl. "Hey, it's okay. Aurora has been living with kids her whole life. She wouldn't scare you on purpose." He smiled, but his eyes still showed he was lingering in a dark place mentally. He didn't touch her, mostly because he had learned the hard way through Thea that not everyone liked contact. "Are you gonna sit by us on the bus?" he asked to change the subject and distract her mind from her fears of the rambunctious but harmless canine.
Akila lead the way down the steps towards the road so they could wait for the bus. He glanced back at the house and grimaced. They definitely would be bothered at school for living in the creepy old house that gave off such negative energy. He hoped it would get better and the house would feel more like his home and less like they were intruding.

Damon rushed down from his room hearing someone scream. His hair in a tangled mess obvious of just getting out of the shower. His eyes looked around frantically searching for the socrse of the scream. He did however see that Akila had taken care of it so he just leaned up on the door frame watching him.

I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE OPTIMIST THE HOPER OF FAR-FLUNG HOPES AND THE DREAMER OF IMPROBABLE DREAMS Addressed: akila MENTIONED: victoria, oscar, matthew, quinton children in general notes: akila is so sweet!!! tags: @patch Aquila Alec Ellie There was no telling where her fear of dogs came from. Both her parents had been fond of all creatures (her father especially), and her brother loved dogs-- always wanted one, but it was something that the Cromwell's had never gotten around to. Something they never would now.
Despite what Olivia thought of the mother, the Quinton children didn't seem all too bad. Some put her in a bad mood, but none had been outwardly mean to her since arriving and thus the outcast could feel less... of an outcast. Olivia hadn't been bothered when one of the Quinton twins had shoed her canine attacker into the house, but when she was introduced to a slightly older boy, she had tensed.
It wasn't like her to tense in front of a boy, but this one so sweet, when other boys in her third year weren't so. This boy wasn't in his third year. He was about two or three older than her, she estimated; but small for his age, she assumed. He seemed smart. Olivia liked smart.
She shuffled off the ledge and fall onto her feet in front of him. Smiling to match his, Olivia straightened her blouse and fixed her hair so that it was laying flat against her head instead of scattered around her in a frenzy.
"Thanks." She whispered as if too afraid to talk to someone who was considered 'more' than her. That was something Olivia had hoped she'd never get used to: feeling less than someone just because her mother worked for them.
He invited her to sit on the bus with them. Or had he just asked? Either way, Olivia nodded her head without really understanding the question. She picked up her backpack and slid it over her shoulders, following the ten-year-old Quinton to where the bus would pick them up.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
After the night she had, Victoria was more than ready to return home and get some much needed rest. He heart was still pounding out of her chest and her skin was burning. She could hear Michael's breath still in her ears and felt the warmth of his tongue on her--
Victoria shook her head, banishing the thoughts from her memories. Her entire body was begging her-- begging for something-- begging for Michael. She stopped.
She was halfway out the door with her bag and her coat, but she stopped and turned around one last time, having the strangest sensation that someone was watching her leave. After the air turned cold and there was no one in sight, Victoria shrugged it off and continued out the door and onto the driveway.
She rummaged through her things for her keys, her steps starting to quicken, like she was running from something. She was about to pull her keys from her purse when something stopped her. She dropped the keys on the driveway and looked up to see--

It had been one hell of a day. Michael rubbed his temple and sighed as he started down the stairs. He had excused himself from Lucille so that he could finish up for the night. Now that it was done his busy mind was starting to slow down and process everything.
Has was about halfway down the stairs when he noticed a figure in the doorway of the front entrance. It was an easy figure to spot for him but it vanished just as quickly from his view. "Victoria?"
Then more forcefully, "Victoria!"
He jogged the rest of the way down the stair and out the door to catch up to her. She had a bit of the startled animal look to her as she turned to face him. She even dropped her car keys. He slowed his pace and almost regretted his impulsiveness. "Uh, sorry I..."
He stooped to pick up her keys for her only to realize she had the same idea. They both reached and their heads came perilously close together. His eyes connected with hers, then dropped to her lips. He thought he caught a scent from her hair, and it was making him dizzy. He hesitated and stopped short before their hands touched and he awkwardly returning to his standing position.
He cleared his throat and tried to produce a smile. "Are you on your way home?"

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
To avoid making contact with the intruder, Victoria reached down to snatch her keys only to bump her head against his as he went to do the same. Their hands touched and Victoria winced. She shrunk back as Michael handed her the keys. She tried to smile.
"Thanks." Victoria mumbled as she took the keys from his hands, avoiding his touch at all costs. She was trying so hard to avoid his eyes.
After a moment of fiddling with her keys, Victoria let out a shaky sigh. "I-- I have to go get the kids first." She blinked and raised her gaze towards him.
He was a whole foot taller than her; she could focus on his chest, but she went immediately towards his lips. What pained her most was knowing that this was what he did. Michael was a whore, and his reputation wasn't invisible to her. She knew exactly who he was, and part of her didn't care.
"Look," Victoria moved forward only to take the same step backwards, remembering herself. "What happened today... it was really unprofessional, and I--" Victoria stopped herself.
What did she want to say? Sorry? That wasn't right. She wasn't sorry. It won't happen again? That wasn't right either. Victoria did want it to happen again. She wanted something to happen--anything; because it was different. It was new, and it was exciting, and it was a distraction: a beautiful distraction.
"I can't-- I'm sorry." She sputtered out in a haste, ready to end the conversation and forget it ever happened. "I'm your boss, and... I have Oscar and Olivia and... Matthew." She felt her heart beat a bit quicker. "I didn't mean anything by it-- not that it wasn't good. I just mean it doesn't-- I don't--" She was talking faster than she usually did; she was starting to run out of breath. "I don't want to make a big deal out of this. I just want-- I want..." She took a deep breath. She stopped and watched him, suddenly, completely aware of how cold the air had become.

His eyes followed her movements. They were full of nervousness and she avoided his eyes. He had mixed feelings about it. He felt remorse that he was making her uncomfortable, but at the same time it gratified him to see that she was bothered by him.
"What happened today... it was really unprofessional, and I--"
His brows knitted together and he tilted his head at her. Why was she apologizing? A litany of excuses fell from her lips and he could find no fault in any of them. Their positions, her children, her....he didn't think her husband was still in the picture. He frowned. Maybe she was still in love with him? In any case he couldn't disagree with her reasoning, they were all perfectly valid.
She was rambling now and he really didn't want to hear anymore. He only shook his head at her. "I know. I just wanted to...." he paused as he tried to catch her eyes so she could see he was being sincere. "Make sure that you're alright."
He wanted to go back to the way things were, or at least back to their easy banter. He was tempted to make a witty remark, but every charming thought that passed through his mind now sounded flirty. Had it always been like this? He had thought it was just good comradery between friends but now everything had a sexual undertone.
"I just wanted you to know.....that I'm always here for you if you need me."
He hoped she realized that he was serious and not just hoping to get her in the sack. His reputation didn't help things but maybe she put a bit more stock in their friendship. His eyes softened and he smiled.
"I hope you know that."

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
Victoria finally met his gaze. He didn't look at her like an object or toy. He looked at her with respect, adoration even. She swallowed the knot in her throat, and dared to inch another step towards him.
The ground underneath her feet felt soft, like she was sinking into the earth right below. Victoria felt smaller next to him. Her whole nose was turned upward to see the blue in his eyes. "You're always there for me." She repeated like a prayer.
"You've been my only friend since I arrived in the states." She admitted quietly. Victoria couldn't tell if Michael had gotten bored or if he was just deep in thought. "I don't want to screw that up." His face never changed. He was always so stoic, and God! that irritated the hell out of her.
She swallowed. Her heart was beating out of her chest, and her hands were starting to get clammy. Victoria shifted back and tried to regather herself, pulling her things close and starting for her car. She was about to turn her back on him completely, when something terribly familiar flooded her memories.
She had turned away from Matthew once. She had turned away from him because he had been too much of a coward to make the first move. That didn't stop her, then... so why was it stopping her now? That night she had turned back around.
"Oh what the hell." Victoria dropped her things in the driveway, and immediately turned back towards Michael. Without warning, she reached for his shoulders, throwing her arms around his neck and using his body to hold her up as she forced her lips to his in a moment of desperate passion.
As quickly as she thrown herself at him she had pried herself away. Victoria huffed, wiped her mouth, and threw her hands on her hips. "Okay," she breathed. "Okay. That was the last time, yeah? Okay?" She was completely out of breath, running herself mad, and looking at him for some sort of affirmation.

Michael felt a sense of relief that Victoria valued their friendship as much as he did. There were times, like right now, when she pulled at his heartstrings. When she mentioned something about him being her only friend, he wanted to crush her to him in a giant hug. But no, he had to contain himself. He only smiled gently at her instead. "I hope you know, that I'll always be here for you."
That smile slipped a little as she suddenly turned around and seemed to be gathering up her things and herself. Damn. Was she leaving already? It was on the tip of his tongue to offer to carry something for her, walk her to her car, anything.
Then suddenly, her items were falling and her arms were rising to his shoulders. She kissed him. It took a moment for him to recover from the shock, but then he started to lift his arms to circle her waist. Then suddenly it was over and she was stepping away from his embrace before he could finish the thought. He blinked and tried to focus on her.
He couldn't focus on a damn thing! The blood was pounding in his head. Was she teasing him? She was standing there with hands on hips like she was waiting for some kind of response. What the hell was she talking about? The last time? He didn't want it to be. They couldn't be over, they hadn't even started yet.
He reached and snagged her hand to pull her back to him. He stared at some distant spot over her head as he spoke. "Why do you give hope like that to a man like me?" His gaze then dropped to her face, he searched her eyes before his own dropped to her lips. He looked like he was going to kiss her again.
"I can't leave you alone."

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
His hands were on her waist. His breath was hot on her cheeks. Goosebumps prickled her arms, and Victoria tore her gaze downward to avoid another collision of the mouths. "Michael..." Her voice was breathless. He was so close-- too close. She felt it her blood.
Victoria let out a soft breath, shaking her entire body with it. "A man like you... and who are you?" She asked, her voice soft, barely audible had he not been standing so close. He looked at her the way men look at young women, but more intense. There was emotion there. She never thought she'd see the day that Michael showed a woman some sort of emotion.
"I can't leave you alone."
His lips were closer to hers now. She could almost taste him. As his hands tightened around her, Victoria found that her own hands were starting to slip from his form. She let her hands fall away, and Victoria rested her head on his chin for just a second before gently pulling away.
"You have to..."

"A man like you... and who are you?"
He had always thought that he was a man that had no possible chance with a woman like Victoria. Even as he held her in his arms, he could feel the slight resistance, like she was trying to half heartedly push him away, and he could see the uncertainty in her eyes. He could almost see an internal battle going on in them.
"A man who knows, truly, that he is no good for you. You deserve someone better," He knew it. Of course he did. It scared him though how close he was to not caring about the consequences. But she had far more to lose than he did.
He forced himself to loosen his arms although he didn't move away. He lifted a hand and ran it slowly down her hair until his palm brushed the side of her face. His smile was a little sad and self deprecating. "I'm not worth it."
Then almost as if he intended to contradict his own words, he bent forward, his face descending toward hers, his eyes were locked onto hers before they dropped to her mouth. Then surprising, he bypassed her mouth to gently kiss her check instead. It still held more passion than he expected. His lips lingered and his breath hit her ear as he whispered,
"But...I want to be." Addressed: victoria Mentioned: x Tags: Ellie Notes: what is this soap opera? XD
