HARDSHIPS PREPARE ORDINARY PEOPLE FOR EXTRAORDINARY DESTINY
Nevaeh followed the suits to the halls of the bedrooms. She waited until Lucille had vanished into one of the rooms on the first floor. When she was out, Nevaeh hurried to the stairs and hopped in front of Akila. Her irises rolled across the stairs, over the room that her mother had vanished behind, then turned to her little brother and whispered, "C'mon. We'll smuggle her up. No need to keep her locked in the cold without us to keep her warm. Mother will never know. I promise." Smirked, she winked, and let Akila lead them up the remainder of the stairs. Once in their own space, Nevaeh allowed for her little brother to find his own room. Aurora would keep him safe while he wandered the corridors. For her, she found her room immediately. It was directly next to her brother's, her best friend's bedroom. She pushed her belongings into the lavish room and hopped across the bud of space to where her twin brother was unpacking his things Smiling and beaming at him, "We should learn morse code so we can talk through knocks on the wall we share." Were the first words she shared with her brother. "Never know when that may come to use." She tapped the wall behind her for confirmation on that this wall-- this was the wall that they shared. Nikolai followed Nevaeh and Akila up the stairs into the hallway where their bedrooms were located. He felt anxious to leave the hoard and retire to what would become his sanctuary. As Nevaeh conspired with Akila to let Aurora into go into his room against their mother's wishes. Nikolai smiled in return, he was of the same opinion as Nevaeh. He couldn't understand why their mother didn't see that having the dog with them would give some of the Quinton children a sense of security. They were in a strange new place and basically left to fend for themselves. Didn't she realize these things? As they made their way down the hallway, he paused a moment by the room that was Nevaeh's as his twin dragged her belongings inside he glanced around and commented with a dry, "Nice." His tone was full of sarcasm but he had a smile on his face. Then he went to the next door that he presumed was his. He was glad to be next to Nevaeh, although he didn't say it out loud. Their bedrooms had always been next to each other since they were children, and he was glad they would be again."We should learn Morse code so we can talk through knocks on the wall we share." Nikolai had dragged his own belongings into his room and let them drop on the floor as he heard his sister's voice. He turned his head with a smirk at her comment. "Morse code? I better work on my SOS." He took a slow turn taking in everything in view in his room. The curtains were drawn and the room was dark, all the furniture looked ancient like someone would come running and yell at him for touching the furniture. "We sure this is my room or Count Dracula's?" he grinned at his twin.He went then and threw himself across his bed, feeling the tiredness from the night catching up to him. At least they could rest for awhile before they needed to get up and see what's what. "What time are we supposed to go downstairs? 7:00 or something?" he mumbled. He knew his mother wanted a roll call at that time and he just couldn't wait to hear what she had to say as explanation to them all. If she thought he was going to go easy and obedient about this move, she had another thing coming.

JULIANA Juliana smiled lopsidedly when Lucille instructed her to stay with the children. After eyeing up the new staff, Juliana was more than happy to duck out and shepherd her charges. Her grey eyes caught the sight of a family tail disappearing upstairs beside Akila. She sighed and closed her eyes. The sweet but stubborn boy had sneaked upstairs with the dog despite his mother's insistence on the dog staying in the kitchen. After shaking herself, Juliana followed the children. She deliberately skipped Akila's room, knowing she would find the dog in there, and instead checked on the older set of twins.
Nikolai and Neveah had a habit of being troublemakers, and Juliana knew they were joined at the hip. She peeked in at Nikolai and huffed as he grumbled to his twin. "Yes, seven." She narrowed her eyes at the mischievous siblings. She did love them very much, but boy, were they a handful. "And don't you make your mother wait a moment longer." She crossed her arms. She may not be tall or broad, but she had a stare that made adult men snap at attention. She had done it in the presence of the children but more often when on her own. Being barely over five feet tall made her look like a target, but those thinking that would be terribly wrong. She knew several arts of self-defense and always had a pocket knife on her person. She had snapped a man's arm once when he attempted to snatch her purse. In other words, she was tough as nails but also soft enough to dry the Quinton children's tears, cuddle them and read stories to them. She loved them all dearly. "If you're not down there at five passed, I'll come looking for you," Juliana added in a more pleasant tone that nevertheless held a deal of weight. They would not like it if she had to look for them.
After ducking out of Nikolai's room, she inspected the others and found that Elsie was not in her own room. She frowned as she heard the little girl's voice in Akila's room. Juliana made to poke her head in, but then she heard the girl's words. The house was... too loud? That made her uneasy. The littlest Quinton was oddly sensitive to the world around her. She hoped that the uneasiness stemmed from the children being frightened of the huge manor house. She smiled when she heard Akila offer reassurance. The adopted Quinton had been so silent the last few weeks, she had grown worried for him. Knowing Akila would watch the clock for dinner, she left the two little ones to their own devices, though she determinedly did not look into the room. She would see that dog and either panic or tell Akila to send her out. Akila needed all the comfort he could get, and Elsie sounded like she needed some comforting that her brother could provide.
The nanny checked in on the remaining children then went to retrieve her bag, which she had left in the foyer. She grabbed it up and walked to the opposite side of the house - the east wing, where her bedroom was on the third floor. Fear. It was a feeling William was all too familiar with. Ironically it was an emotion William desperately no longer wanted to feel himself, and here he was contemplating stoking the fire of fear in these two innocent children. The emotion was already there with these two, he decided he wouldn't have to do much, some small thing. It took a lot of concentration and energy to influence the environment around you when you no longer have a body to move things. He hadn't tried in a long time. Just as he was about to try the girl suddenly started screaming, backing out of the room until she was on the floor in the hallway.William stood dumbfounded. This was no tantrum scream, this was a terrified scream. The scream of someone who saw something terrifying. William quickly glanced down at himself. He didn't do anything though? Then he considered something he hadn't before. This girl must be sensitive....sensitive to the aura of the house and it's spirits. The plan to scare them forgotten, William felt a more human reaction. He knelt beside the screaming girl and reached out a hand to touch her in a comforting way, only to pause uncertainly as he realized he couldn't. He frowned feeling pained for the girl. Footsteps thundered from the stairs and hallway, announcing the approach of several people coming to the girl's aid. William was more concerned with forces that did not have her best interest at heart. His touch passed over her arm, it only left a sensation of a chill on the skin, probably not noticeable to a screaming girl he thought. William murmured softly in a voice he was sure no living person would hear. "Shhh....don't cry out....he'll hear you..." Then he left her as the approaching footfalls came closer. He disappeared into the background like he was never there to begin with.Addressed: Theia Mentioned: Max, Quintons, Servants Tags: Piper Ellie @patch @fez

JULIANA Oh. That's how it was. The entitled little widow who only had money because of her late husband was telling, she, Juliana, that she was beneath her. Oh, how she should have seen this coming. Juliana was seeing now how foolish she had been; thinking Lucille was her friend. She could be a little pompous, but she had never seen this side of her. Dead husband or not, she was being cruel to everyone - including her children. Did she see that? Probably not. Knowing her face had gone blank, Julia released Lucille's arm and gave Micheal a broad smile over her shoulder.
"I would very much enjoy those lemony sweets, darlin'." Her eyes twinkled and she winked at Micheal before turning back to her boss and still smiling. Though this smile was more predatory and not flirtatious. "Crystal." She walked passed Lucille, leaving her behind her. Fine. The children would be her priority and her boss could deal with her own issues. Juliana had been there day and night to help with the children, even before Micheal had died. She had been new when the youngest twins were barely a year old. She had helped raise them. She was less than a human to Lucille? Fine. She would stay for the children, but the bitchy widow was no longer her problem. Only if she involved the children directly would she intervene. Juliana had grown up in the roughest areas of London growing up, and more than once she had had to defend herself physically and emotionally from people. This would be no different, but only this time, her heart ached. Sure, she had smiled when answering Lucille, but she felt betrayed. The Quintons had been more like her family than her employers. Well, she thought that had.
Biting her lip and fighting not to cry, Juliana had just put her hand on the banister, when she heard Thea's high-pitched and terrified screams. Her eyes widening, the little nanny darted up the stairs as fast as her legs would carry her. Despite her hurt feelings, the children came first always. She spotted Thea on the ground and knelt over her, trying to figure out if she was having a fit or something. She knew better than to touch her. The girl despised physical contact. Juliana frowned and looked around. Had this hallway always been this...cold?

Ooh, how he loved chaos. Max watched in amusement as the twins yelled, thinking the house was shorting out. Nope, not the electricity. Something far more mysterious and terrifying. He circled them as they pounded on the door, the girl getting particularly angry. How delightful. He absorbed her negative feelings: her anger and frustration with what she thought were her siblings. It was like sweet music to his ears. His spirit pulsed with energy as he took in their feelings. He savored them like a fine wine and spun slowly on the spot in a graceful dance, laughing. He hadn't felt so good in decades - not since the last of his line left. The staff were sparse pickings compared to these fucked up kids.
Just when he thought this couldn't get any better, he heard the high-pitched screams of one of the other brats. He frowned. This was not his doing. He wondered if one of the other spirits was restless and out to play... He would need to remedy that. Only he could torment the occupants of his home.
Max let go of the door and stalked through the wall, his eyes scanning the hallway where a small crowd had gathered around the screaming and thrashing child. He ignored them, invisible to their eyes, and stalked over them. He sensed another spirit nearby, but he was hiding. He had been scared off by the living. Pathetic. Max smiled broadly and closed his eyes, feeding off of the girl's terror. She must be a sensitive human - one who could sense supernatural presence or leftover emotions. This house was infested with bad blood stories and spirits who were wrongly killed. A lot of those stories he could lay claim to in at least aiding in.
Yawning and stretching, Max stepped back. He felt refreshed and more powerful than he had since the last full moon. He could probably stir up some real trouble if the negativity continued. He could sense fear on many of the family and resentment from the little nanny who had been such an obedient lapdog. How sad. Max grinned, watching them behind the vale in which the dead walked beside the living. Their torment was like a feast for his soul. He could get used to this.
"Oh, William," Max breathed, knowing the weaker and timid spirit was nearby but hidden, "Look what you started. Brilliant. Simply brilliant." He clapped slowly, watching the terrified family with as much entertainment as one would watch a major sporting event. He was pretty sure that William might have just been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Or his attempt at being "scary" had backfired. Spirits got bored - Max could relate to that more than any of them. Most of the spirits here didn't wish harm on the living, though. They were just miserable in their afterlife. Max relished in his own abilities. He may even become powerful enough to reach physicality long enough to mess with some of those adults especially....

As Nikolai stood at the door, his breathing was ragged. He felt his twin sister appear at his side. Where as Nikolai struggled to control his temper, Nevaeh let it loose. Her wrath far surpassed his, but that was how it usually was. She pounded on the door and hurled threats through the wood. Then a scream sounded from the hallway. Theia? He was almost certain it was their younger serious sister.
Nikolai frowned as the screaming continued and he placed a hand on Nevaeh's shoulder to calm her. "What the....is that Theia?" He placed his other hand on the doorknob again but to his surprise the door opened easily now. He flung the door open and stepped into the hallway just in time to be almost run over by a horde of people running up the stairs and through the hallway.
Their mother and Julianna, along with some servants rushed past heading toward their screaming sister who was laying on the ground in the hall. Nikolai looked to Nevaeh again with an incredulous look. "What the hell is going on?!" Ellie @patch Piper @fez @derek Let the chaos begin lol

Michael was about to retreat and head back towards the kitchen when he happened to catch the icy exchange between Lucille and Julianna. It seemed Lucille didn't appreciate her attempt to influence her, and she quickly put the nanny in her place. Michael wanted to whistle as he raised his eyebrows. Cold that one was. Michael sort of felt sorry for the tiny nanny. He could tell she was trying not to lose her temper as well as she responded in clipped tones to her boss. She did give him a big smile though at his offer to bring refreshments later.
Michael was smiling to himself as he turned away and then a piercing scream echoed from upstairs that had him stopping in his tracks. "Bloody hell?" He looked first to Victoria who's expression wore a worried look only to be found on a mother's face. "I have to-- make sure that's not mine." She then darted up the stairs as Michael whirled around just in time to catch Lucille and Julianna doing the same. They all had that same look on their face. Terror for the children.
He didn't even need to think about it, he found himself following them up the stairs, he took two at a time in his haste to reach the scene. His worry though was tempered by his natural calmness, and he was thorough. His mind replayed information he had learned from first aid and CPR courses. He had to learn life saving skills for past employers that he took care of day and night. He also cursed himself. Damn it, why did I skip out on that refresher course to spend the night with some woman? He slowed down when he spotted the girl having a fit on the ground. She appeared unhurt though. Michael frowned looking around, to him nothing seemed out of place. Just what had happened to this girl? Ellie @patch @aaka2013 Michael be like these people are crazy lol

"Victoria told us to wait there for her. You know she's gonna be mad right?" Oscar relayed his reasonable thoughts to his little sister in a neutral voice. He didn't sound like he was worried about getting into trouble at all. In fact, when his younger sister grabbed his hand and pulled him along with her, Oscar didn't resist. He allowed Olivia to lead him into one of her ideas, but subconsciously perhaps the little boy thought going with her was a way to keep her from getting into any trouble. The two of them climbed another set of stairs until they where in the hallway. Oscar's face puckered. Isn't this where most of the Quinton children were? He didn't really want to bump into any of them. "Olivia, where are we going? This place is..." A scream from the hallway had Oscar falling silent and he stopped short tugging Olivia to his side. A girl came out of one of the bedrooms and flung herself on the floor. She was screaming and screaming. Oscar gritted his teeth as he released his sister's hand so he could place his own on his ears to block out the screaming. God, make it stop! He grimaced and crammed his fingers in his ears. In front of them several adults suddenly came running and crowded around the girl. He thought he saw Victoria too.The hallway seemed to expand and contract, and the flurry of motion in front of them seemed to slow down and become silent like he was watching an old movie. They all faded away, even Olivia he couldn't see anymore. He saw other people appear like smoke, they rippled at first like an image on water then it became clearer. It was still commotion. People hurried around, they wore clothes that looked different. Old. They hovered over a figure in the bed in the sick room. It looked like a woman, she was deathly white and ill looking. Oscar knew with certainty that the woman was dead or dying. Death. That's all he ever saw was death. He hated it. He hated this hallway. He hated this house. He hated everything.Addressed: Olivia Mentioned: Victoria, Quintons Tags: Piper Ellie @patch Notes: Poor Oscar

Elliott was thrown back when the shear force of his sister's panic overtook the bedroom. His nose did a little sniff and then he was clawing his way out of the doorframe and into the hall after Theia, who was still screaming like she had been stabbed over and over again.
Elliott was crying now. He could feel the tears heating his cheeks and his throat was full of mucus as he tried to gargle some sound of his vocals and call for his mother, but he was so shaken up that only small and pathetic whimpers came out instead.
"T-Theia..." He managed to muster over the moisture building up in his mouth. "T-theia! Please-- Please s-stop! Stop it, Theia!" His voice increased with strength and the littlest Quinton felt himself jerking around the hall. He was sobbing and screaming over Theia for her to stop. He was so scared... so scared.
The sound of footsteps climbing up the staircase sent a wave of relief over the smallest Quinton and he redirected his attention to the coming crowd. "Mommy! Mommy!" Elliott was still screaming, and the tears had drowned his entire facade. His nose sniffed and snot drained over his upper lip. "Somebody! H-help! P-please!"
Elliott felt it all move and twirl around him like he was the ghost in the hall. Theia was so red-faced that he feared she might stop breathing. Her limbs were shaking underneath her and her bottom refrained from sticking up off the floor. She was stuck, it seemed, and Elliott had no idea how to help her. All he did was cry and wait for the help to arrive. Because what else was he good for?

"the fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose"
Lucille had forgotten how fast she could move when her children were at threat. She felt her heartbeat accelerate with the shear force at which her feet pounded up the stairs. Like a bull charging, Lucille pushed through the crowd of her own children and staff that had clustered around her daughter.
"Move-- move!" She shoved Juliana to the floor in a panic, never meaning to hurt or offend her, but desperate to be the first at her daughter's aid. "Back up-- out of the way, all of you!" Lucille was shouting then. She reached out to her screaming daughter, scared, but determined to feel the touch of her terrified child.
When her own panic had taken over, Lucille didn't care about Theia's 'no touch' rule. She took Theia by the forearm and pulled her into her lap once she was on her knees. Theia's little body crumpled into her hold. Lucille shook her and then rocked her and cradled her head in her palm and hushed as soothingly as she could in her own panic. "You're okay... You're okay." Lucille muttered slowly and quietly, unable to say anything else.

AKILA Akila leaped off the bed when he heard Thea's screams without hesitating. He opened the door to his bedroom and stopped in his tracks upon seeing the chaos that was laid out before him: his mother crying out and trying to soothe Thea, though she shoved Julia in the process. A handful of staff had joined them and so had most of Akila's siblings. What could be causing Thea to react to violently? Sure, Thea had her issues, but he had never seen her lose it like this.
Instinctively, Akila moved to put himself in between Elsie and whatever might be upsetting Thea. He couldn't see anything, but he sensed something dark about this... this space. He felt as if he and his family we being circled by a stalking tiger who was getting ready to pounce. A prickling on the back of his neck had him looking about, but again, he saw nothing. He felt eyes on him, but the entire group of people who had come into the hallway in response to Thea's cries were paying attention to the distressed girl and little else.
He felt Aurora move to his side. She started to growl low in her throat, but her eyes were focused on a point at the opposite end of the hallway. Something was upsetting the dog and making her go into protective mode. As the seconds ticked by, her growling got deeper. The hackles on the back of her neck were standing on end. She was on the alert.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
Victoria was at the head of the stampede, but she ended at the back when Lucille shoved through the crowd of staff and children that had gathered in the hall. She was much less shoved than she chose to fade into the background.
Five-foot-two and standing in the back, Victoria had no chance at seeing what was going on above the children at 5.7 foot and the staff at nearly 6 foot. She danced on the tip of her toes and tried to see who the victim of the terror was, but she couldn't look over the heads of the vertical lucks.
It wasn't much matter to her once she located her own children outside of the centre of the chaos. Victoria scurried over to them, kneeling before the two of them just as Oscar started to drift away. He looked around the hall as if he staring at it for the first time and a question formed in his eyes. He didn't notice that Victoria was knelt in front of him.
"Oi!" She snapped her fingers in front of his eyes and pulled his attention back to her with worry written over her entire facade. "You okay?" She questioned, hands pulled at his shoulders to bring him a bit closer. She worried about Oscar the most-- he had lost the most when his father left.
Victoria's hand landed on his head and her fingers caressed through his hair as she attempted to pull him back into reality. Olivia was there, too, much more engaged than her brother was. "What happened? You weren't part of it, were you?" She was asking Olivia then.

The first day at their new home was not turning out to be brilliant for this family Michael mused to himself. Everything was chaotic. Lucille, in her haste to reach her child, pushed by people and ended up shoving Julianna out of the way as she went to tend to her child. Michael reached down and offered his hand to the tiny nanny.
The other small child was crying, the older ones were loud and demanding answers, pushing and shoving. This was not how Michael liked to operate. Victoria who had reached the scene first was shoved to the side as well and as she tottered after being bumped, Michael automatically reached out a hand and placed it around her shoulders to steady her. She then spotted something in the hallway and rushed off. Michael realized it was her own children, they stood there like little statues watching everything.
Michael frowned looking back to the crowd. Okay, enough of this. "Okay everyone, why don't we step back and give them some room to breathe?' His tone was calm and firm. He had no idea about if the girl had a condition, maybe she had a seizure? As Lucille held and rocked her like a baby, sobs kept coming from the girl. He figured her mother would know best what to do for her. Perhaps she needed medicine? As Michael shooed everyone to go back to what they were doing, everything was fine, he turned back to Lucille. "Does she need anything?" he asked gently.
Michael perhaps was a great person to have in a crisis, although he had no idea, but his greatest strength was perhaps his calm energy. It beckoned the others to relax and dispel the chaos. He felt no fear or anger. It was exactly the kind of attitude that everyone needed. And exactly the kind of energy that the house and evil spirits didn't like. Michael had no clue about that though of course, he didn't believe in the supernatural.

It was strange. Because when her mother touched her she wasn't immediately spurred with images of her dead father. Instead she was filled with the sensation of love and her. It was her only mother and her, in all memories that swished through her brain.
Theia fell into her mother's embrace with an uncharacteristic warmth. Until those images of her and her mother turned to images of her and her father and then her mother and her father and then only her father. And Theia pulled away from her mother's touch to relax against the floor again.
She wasn't shaking anymore, but her skin was still cold and her vision was still blurred. "I'm fine-- I'm fine!" She protested with her voice raised slightly. "Just..." She frowned and shook her hair behind her shoulders. "Please, just, don't touch me." Theia felt her skin settle even when the danger loomed over like a raincloud.

JULIANA Juliana took a shaky breath as she steadied herself. Had Lucille been stronger, the shove might actually hurt more than an initial sting. She had a little carpet burn on the side of her leg, but was otherwise fine. Her pride was wounded more than anything. She had bested more dangerous men before. Curse her soft heart for focusing more on Thea's cries and looks on the rest of the children's faces. She had seen with pride that Akila was taking care of little Elsie. He was such a good boy. They all had their moments, even the older ones.
She gathered herself, preparing to get up and perhaps check on the others, when a hand reached out to her. Slowly, Julia lifted her eyes to look into Micheal's blue eyes. Color flooded her cheeks. Even if she hadn't thought he was good-looking, she was embarrassed at being offered help. Nobody had actually helped Juliana for many years. It had always just been her watching her own back. Sure, she had been employed and had-... well, she had felt like she was part of the Quinton family for the last five years. Now, she knew that things were different. That didn't change how she felt about the children, however. She would still protect them fiercely.
Still, having a man offer her help was a first. Juliana swallowed her pride and took his offered hand, which was warm. She stood up and blinked up at the butler nearly a foot taller than her. "Thank you," she murmured before releasing him and hastily moving to the smaller children. She touched Akila, Elsie, and then moved over to Elliot - who stood alone and watching Thea with a petrified look in his eyes. She crouched and put an arm around Elliot.
"Elliot," Juliana said in her soft accented voice. "What happened, love?" she asked in the gentlest voice she could. "Tell me everything." Her gray eyes were gentle but she also had a no-nonsense ere about her. Micheal was trying to make sure everyone calmed down while Thea recovered from whatever the hell just happened.

The scene from the past that played out in front of Oscar became more vivid, more real. As if all this was happening right here and now. The people weren't really scary, they looked normal. Just servants running around attending to their business. Even the dying or dead woman seemed peaceful, and Oscar was no stranger to death. What was scary was what lay beyond the curtain, beyond this scene was a dark force. Just up ahead in the hallway, a dark presence but also the house itself. Darkness invaded his every field of vision, it creeped in like dark clouds drifting across the ceiling and walls. Oscar whimpered. His breath came out ragged. He could almost hear a voice calling. Oscar. Oscar. Oscar! "Oi!""Oi!" It was a woman's voice he heard that broke through. Oscar blinked and the visions faded and Victoria's face came into focus. Worry was plastered all over her face as she touched his face and smoothed his hair. "You okay?" Oscar just nodded silently as Victoria shifted her attention to Olivia and was asking her questions.. Oscar didn't really hear it all, he looked up back to the hallway as the commotion seemed to be dying down, the girl had stopped screaming and everyone was calming down. Everything looked as it had before.Oscar reached up with one hand to rub his eye and he slid his palm over his temple until his fingers messed with his hair. He frowned and a small groan escaped his little body."I don't like it here..."

Ah, the terror and anger that filtered just in this one area was like a refreshing dip in a cold pool. He rumbled and smiled, leaning against the wall with arms folded. He watched, unseen, as the family gathered around the small girl, who was having some sort of fit. Ugh. How boring. At least the emotions coming off of the living were fueling him. He licked his lips, watching in delight as the mother of the litter of blondes came hurrying up the stairs. Max's eyebrows rose in delight when he saw her shove the little nanny out of the way to get to her daughter. The surge of resentment that came off of the nanny was like a shot of whisky. He purred. Excellent.
The kids were scared. His other... other half liked the smell of fear. It made him hungry for prey. He would definitely have enough strength to cause some terror tonight. If only he could pick who he would visit first... The mother seemed like the ideal, but he liked the look of the nanny, and those older twins had only gotten a taste of what he was capable of. Decisions, decisions...
Max snarled silently as the butler appeared. He actually helped the silvery-blonde babysitter to her feet, and the bubble of arousal mixed with reluctant appreciation made him huff. Well, that hadn't lasted long. He shook his head as the little girl who had been freaking out began to calm in her mother's presence. Another spark of positivity that put a hole in his little happy moment.
Now bored, Max moved his eyes around the group, but the fear was slowly trickling away like a leaky pipe. Sure, there was still some uneasiness, but it was being evaporated as the adults took control of the situation. It's not like William and the other spirits could cause a ruckus that would last too long. Usually. One of the boys was looking at him. No, not at him but in his general direction. Judging by the look on the boy's face, what he saw wasn't pleasant. Max smiled his dangerous smile. A sensitive. How interesting.
The new people now boring him, Max strode around the group and circled the eleven year-old boy once. Max didn't have a lot in his arsenal at the moment. He couldn't be solid right now. The darkest time of night was usually when he was at the height of his abilities. Anyway, he didn't want to waste his power on this one. He was curious. His form brushed passed the child before he retreated into the more secluded parts of the house. For the time being, he would lie in wait. Tonight, when everyone was asleep, he would hunt.

She immediately pushed away when her mother attempted to bring her comfort. Olivia, instead, extended to her toes and looked out over the heads-- except that it didn't help. She couldn't see what they all saw.
After the commotion had calmed down, Olivia didn't have much interest in what was happening anymore. Her brother mumbled something then and she felt that same sort of coldness wash over her. This house wasn't meant for people, least of all the Cromwell siblings.
"Can we go home, now?" Olivia asked. Her nose tilted towards the floor. She wasn't sure if she would be allowed that luxury seeing that there was so much going on that morning. Olivia felt as if she was going to be stuck here even if her mother wanted to leave, they couldn't.
The seven-year-old crept towards her brother, leaning her chin against his back and looking in his direction. He was still staring blankly into the hall. "What are you staring at?" Olivia whispered to her brother, who was lost... lost in his own oblivion. Olivia frowned. She hated when her brother found himself in one of these spells.

"the fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose"
Despite having the maternal need to hold her child, Lucille departed from her daughter's embrace and fell on her tailbone. The child trembled to the ground and no one could do anything but watch. Theia was like that-- finicky and panicked even if there was no need for it. There was never really a need for it.Lucille didn't raise her head to the butler, but instead shook her head, keeping an eye on her daughter first and foremost. "She just needs space..." She stumbled then for a moment because she thought of something-- something that her daughter might need.
"And!" She looked to the butler then, her eyes wide and full of worry. "Some water and crackers for her room. She'll be resting for the remainder of the night." Lucille waited to look at her daughter because seeing Theia frightened her.
She stood then. Or she stumbled to rise when her feet seemed to fail her. Lucille reached out to her daughter the moment she was stabilised, or even a bit before, and offered to help Theia back on her feet. Theia was stubborn, but Lucille wished for her daughter's cooperation.
Lucille begged of her daughter. "Come to bed, darling. You need the rest." The room was still crowded and the hall was hardly large enough to stash them all. Lucille looked to all her children, still standing around and gawking like hordes. "Go on, get yourselves downstairs at the dinner table in five minutes or I'll have you all locked in your rooms for the rest of the night--- GO!" Lucille shouted her last command and watched as her children dispersed.

The atmosphere quieted and Oscar was brought back to the present moment as he saw the Quinton mother shoo the rest of her children away and they dispersed as did the servants, they hurried back to their tasks. He was not very interested in what was going on with all of them but this atmosphere in the hallway he didn't like at all. It was fading, but slowly. He shivered a little as he felt the cold, almost like a breeze as it seemed to circle them. Oscar scrunched up his face like he smelled something bad. Then he felt a small chin resting against his back as his sister whispered to him. "What are you looking at?" He turned his head and looked over his shoulders into her wide eyes. He wasn't sure if it was more curiosity or worry he saw in her eyes. Worry about what he had seen. The last thing he wanted to do make his little sister more uneasy than they already were in this house. "Nothing.....just shadows."He looked to Victoria again as Olivia echoed his statement about wanting to go home. He really didn't want to spend another minute in the house, but even he doubted Victoria would be able to bring them home after this. She probably be extra busy with work now. Because of them. Those Quintons. He looked over again where the mother had stood up and the girl that had been screaming was yelling at people that she was fine and not to touch her. Oscar pouted as he watched them.Addressed: Olivia Mentioned: Victoria, Lucille, Theia, Max Tags: Piper Ellie @patch Notes: Oscar looking at Theia! Omg XD

Things seemed to be calming down and back under control, which Michael liked. The young girl seemed to be okay now and their new employer was giving command to both her children and the staff.
"She just needs space..." Michael nodded and turned around, he was expecting such an answer, but then to his surprise she stopped him. "And some water and crackers for her room. She'll be resting for the remainder of the night."
Michael dipped his head in response. "Of course. I'll bring some to her room right away."
Michael turned to leave glad to see all the children and servants dispersing. He spared a glance at the nanny as she was also helping to settle the children. Her reaction to him offering a hand had surprised him and made him curious. But he quickly returned his attention to the job at hand. He had work to do, and he was glad to be given something to do in this circumstance.
He saw Victoria still at the end of the hallway with her two children and he decided to walk that way by them. He paused for a moment when he reached them. "Everything okay over here?"

IN MY EXPERIENCE, GHOSTS ARE MORE LIKE WISHES THAN NIGHTMARES.
addressed: JUliana Mentioned: Lucille, Theia notes: I love little Elliott! Tags: @patch Ellie Piper
Elliott shook and shivered. His fingers pointed into his ears to block some of the noise out. So much noise-- Oh, did she have to be so loud? Elliott was in tears soon feeling as if he might scream next, but there was a lump in his throat that prevented much more chaos.
He was still in a nervous shake when Juliana wrapped a protective arm around his frame. He tensed for a moment with his fingers still in his ears and he pried open his eyes to be sure of the arm around him. When he was sure of Julianna, Elliott let his arms fall to his sides and he looked to her with round, worried eyes.
"I d-didn't d-do anything I prom-promise!" He hiccuped a response. Even without his nervous tick, Elliott would've stuttered an answer. His knees fell weak then and he collapsed into Juliana's shoulder. Still sobbing, soaking her clothes with his tears, Elliott muffled out a final declaration: "S'she had one'a her f-f-f.." He struggled for his own breath. "f-fits..s..."
His mother's voice then disturbed the commotion and Elliott's whimpers fell silent. His fear, however, was still prominent in his veins and small shivers ran down his spine and he dived in closer to his caretaker for she was the warmth that he needed in all this cold.

AM I WALKING TOWARDS SOMETHING I SHOULD BE RUNNING AWAY FROM?
ADDRESSED: LUCILLE MENTIONED: ELLIOTT, JULIANA NOTES: AHHH!!!! TAGS: Ellie @fez @patch The woman that had been standing next to her was not her mother, but a slender blonde woman in fashioned wear. Theia stared to the figure in the doorframe and wondered if perhaps she was an angel. Except when the angel's mouth twisted into an evil smile and her lips fell to dust, revealing bone and greyed flesh, Theia knew that she was no angel... but a demon in disguise.
She faded along with the rest and suddenly Theia was sitting alone staring up at the ceiling. It was all dark. She couldn't pick one thing out from the next and all sounds went completely silent. Numbness took over and everywhere there was nothing. Only nothing.
Theia's head fell to her knees as she pulled them up to her chest and she heaved in and shuttered out. Until the darkness set away and light filled her vision again. Her mother was there and so were her siblings, no dispersing at their mother's shrill voice. The staff had done the same.
"I'm sorry..." Theia mumbled at last when her mother was standing to her feet, offering her own hand to assist Theia. Theia reached for her mother's grasp and allowed for herself to be lifted from the ground. "I didn't mean to scare anyone." Theia's voice was softer and more timid than it was usually.
Her gaze fell on Elliott in that moment as he sobbed into their nanny's shoulder. She had these 'fits' before, but Elliott was never alone when it had happened and that had scared him. Poor kid... She almost wanted to reach out and pat her brother's shoulder to assure him that it was all okay, but she didn't. She wasn't that kind of big sister.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
Victoria wished she had better answers for her curious children, but she couldn't leave the house not when the Quinton's had only just arrived and Victoria had some charge here at the Ramsay House. Victoria wanted to hold her children, but when she looked at them all she saw was resistance.
She exhaled. Her hands falling to her knees instead of reaching for her children. "C'mon you two. Tristan will fix you supper tonight." Victoria stood to her full height and reached for her daughter's hand in finality as soon as the Quinton's started to vanish into the surrounding rooms.
As she was starting towards the walk, the butler strutted over with his cheeks high and his eyes looming, curious and concerned all at once. "Everything okay over here?"
Victoria felt that her head was shaking automatically. She was so used to caring for her children on her own now that it didn't ever dawn on her to answer honestly. "Fine..." And she lifted her gaze to find Michael staring down at her. They all stared down at her. "Well... I think." She found a more honest answer, but it wasn't much of an improvement.
"Think we better head downstairs. Don't know what Mrs. Quinton has in mind, but I'm sure she'd rather not have us rummaging about with her daughter so..." Her brow quirked upward with purpose. Instead of completing the sentence, she let her face finish the sentence for her. "You wanna come with us to the kitchens? Sorta hoping to stay outta sight for a while." She offered at last. Her lips quivering slightly.

JULIANA Juliana held Elliot as he sobbed into her shoulder. Poor little thing. She listened as he choked out his response, still clearly traumatized. She scooped him up gently and held him as he struggled to calm down. "I'm here... I'm here." She started humming an Irish lullaby to soothe him. Her eyes moved over to Lucille and Micheal. Her stomach ached a little with guilt for having flirted a bit with the butler. Yeesh, they had only been here five minutes...
"I'll bring him down when he's settled," Juliana told Lucille softly, bringing herself back to Earth. "We'll be down momentarily." She walked down the hall to the window, looking out over the vast garden in the back yard as she spoke softly to Elliot. She let him down nervously after realizing she had carried him like he was a toddler. She sometimes forgot herself and how big they had gotten. "Sorry," she mumbled. "I sometimes forget how big you kids have grown."
She rubbed his back slowly and then pulled out a purple handkerchief to dry his face of tears. She half wanted to ask if maybe Elliot saw something else, but that was an odd sensation to have. This was just a creepy old house. Nothing more. She was fairly spiritual in her own way, so why did she feel as if she was trapped here?

he most out of his time was spent in the roses. There were rows and rows of flowers and glorified bushes that required his attention. That's where he was when Victoria came crashing into the kitchen with notice of the Quinton's arrival, which is why when Maverick caught sight of a pink-cheeked blonde woman holding a child in the window looking out over the gardens, he was startled-- thought he had seen a ghost, but when the ghost smiled and the child sobbed, Maverick knew it was no ghost, but a proper living woman and her child, presumedly.
Maverick rounded the corner of the house and walked to the back of the kitchens where he walked through the wooden door and entered the house still covered in dirt and weeds, dressed in a sweated grey tank as his hair stacked up on his head and slicked with his own sweat. Working in the yard had that effect on most-- all, really.
He came up at on the second story where the hall glimmered green and the halls echoed with the noise of a clatter he missed. Whispers floated out from the nearby bedrooms and he took a glance in a few that were still propped open. Children filled them. Must be the new occupants. Early, they were, Maverick frowned.
The woman that he saw from the window below was still there, stroking the hair of a small child and humming something sweet. He cleared his throat upon his approach so as to startle her and the boy, but his feet were still quiet and his body, despite it's mass, was easily silent.
"Sorry. I don't mean to intrude." Maverick was never one for formalities, but he could be addressing his new head of house and manners were expected. "I'm Maverick. Are you Mrs. Quinton?" He asked, straightening his shoulders. He worried that his appearance might offend her. Changing would've been advisable.
And then he noticed that the little boy in her arms was so small and so timid. He hadn't noticed that he was crying and suddenly Maverick felt horribly guilty. "Oh-- I'm so sorry, ma'am." He stuttered a little as he backed away. "I didn't realise... Sorry, buddy. I'll leave you and your mummy be." He tried for a smile.

No matter how often Elliott assured his older companions that he didn't need to be babied, he ended up in their arms at the end of the night and sobbing into his nanny's shoulder, Elliott let his nose sink into the fabric of her clothes until the sniffles stopped and he waited for the time to tick on so he could rejoin his family in the dining room.
Relaxing into Juliana's arms, Elliott leaned his head back against her chest and looked out of the window that led into the gardens. He could see all of the different colours in a dance together outside these walls. He was instantly calmed with the combined sight of the flowers and feel of his nanny drawing circles around his back. If his stomach hadn't rattled, Elliott would've fallen asleep.
"C-can w-we go d-downstairs now?" He stuttered with his hands sliding away from her embrace. He tugged at his nanny's collar until the sound of big, heavy footsteps stopped behind them. Elliott glanced over her shoulder and winced. Ducking immediately back into the comfort of Juliana's touch, Elliott poked his head out only once to see if he could get a better look at the intruder.
The man was covered in dirt and sweat and he seemed kind of nervous to be talking to the nanny. Elliott lifted his head a bit over Juliana's shoulder, now finding himself less timid around the man.
He thought Juliana was his mother and that made him chuckle. "This is Jules." Elliott said with a strange sort of pride as if that name should mean something to him. "She's the nanny!" He beamed. Again, his pride was overwhelming.

JULIANA
Juliana finished her lullaby and continued to hold Elliot until he began to wiggle and settle. She loosened her hold and smiled softly as she dried the last of his tears from his cheeks. "There now, there's a strong lad," she murmured, her Irish tilt coming out of her a bit. She rubbed his back once more then gently let him out of her embrace. She straightened as she heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Thinking they may belong to Lucille, ready to tell her off for making Elliot late for dinner, she straightened her back and braced herself for any upcoming conflict.
What the nanny was not expecting was a tall, sweaty, earth-covered man to enter the hallway. Julia froze and instinctively moved to put herself in between Elliot and the grown man, her grey eyes narrowed suspiciously. He could very easily be a grounds keeper, but why was he all the way upstairs in the children's bedroom hallway. She didn't like it. It made her want to take Elliot and leave, but the man was blocking their only exit to the floors below. She was only five foot and some change, but she could handle herself at least long enough for Elliot to escape if need be.
Julia swallowed as the man addressed her. "I'm Maverick. Are you Mrs. Quinton?" She arched an eyebrow perfectly. "No," she said slowly, still keeping herself in between Elliot and the grubby man. Before she could go further in her reply, Elliot spoke up. "This is Jules. She's the nanny!" The pride in his voice made her eyes sting. She really did adore these children. Lucille's backlash earlier had wounded her terribly, but that wound was staunched by the love the little ones gave her. She could endure a lot as long as the kids still looked on her with affection. She would be hopelessly lost otherwise, she felt.
She grinned down at Elliot briefly then lifted her eyes back to Maverick. "You aren't interrupting anything," she told him with less of an edge to her body language. She still wasn't about to let Maverick near Elliot, though. "I was just taking this one down for supper." The little blonde frowned as she took in his dirty state. "What you doing up here?" she added testily. "This hallway is where the children sleep." She took him in. He was covered in dirt and plant life. He was clearly working outside, and Juliana had to admit that he was nice to look at, but she still didn't like his presence so close to the places where the children slept. She was a protective mama bear that way. Maybe a more lax employee would simply brush this off and inform Lucille later, but that was just not how Juliana did things. She was upfront and protective.
