He had noticed the sudden tense in her voice and the motivation she had to wrap the child around her protection. She was a beautiful woman. Maverick noted the fair tone in her cheeks that heated with a sensitive pink. He noted the wave of her hair and the silver of it's colour. She was an unusual woman, petite and fair-headed with an orb colour almost purple in this darkened light.
"I'm sorry. I just assumed..." Maverick took attention from himself and tucked his hand behind his neck in a nervous think. She was very mistrustful. To be fair, Maverick had never met her or this child. He was only staff here...
The little man piped up then. He was an awkward kid with a loud voice, but possibly the most adorable creature that Maverick had ever come in contact with. He opened his mouth in amazement and nodded to the 'nanny' with a small smirk. "Jules? Well it looks like you and I will be working together then." He had mistaken her for a Quinton, but she was in the service. Like him.
"What are you doing up here?" She asked then with her voice hinting towards danger. Maverick didn't realise that this floor was now 'off limits' to the service. He had found this hall had the best view of his gardens. "I saw you from the window. I'm the groundskeeper. Those are my gardens." He said with a subtle pride behind his words.
She did, however, bring out a fair question. Whether or not she had caught his attention, his reasons for on this floor was for answers. "I was told that the Quinton's wouldn't be here until the summer months. I saw you in the window. I was curious, really." Maverick shrugged his shoulders and lifted his lip to his nose, forming a more confident smile. | M A V E R I C K M O R G A N TAGS: @patch @fez WORD COUNT: 332 |

JULIANA
The nanny continued to watch the stranger with deep mistrust. She squared her shoulders when he addressed her informally. "It's Juliana," she said with her Irish heritage coloring her voice. "Juliana Grey." She gently took a hold of Elliot's hand, grimacing as she heard the raised voices below. Lucille must be butting heads with her eldest children. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence, but given the stressful circumstances, everyone was wound much more tightly than usual. This would only be the first of many squabbles, she thought.
"I saw you from the window. I'm the groundskeeper. Those are my gardens." The groundskeeper seemed to be proud of his work, and Juliana could respect that on some level. All the same, she did not appreciate him coming up here in his dirty state and putting himself in between her with a child and the only exit. Whether he meant this to be the case or not, she was unhappy. "They're beautiful," she admitted to him, "But as of now with the children here, all of the staff should stay clear of this part of the house." Her tone was gaining a warning again.
"I was told that the Quinton's wouldn't be here until the summer months. I saw you in the window. I was curious, really."
Julia shrugged. "Lucille changed her mind and needed to get away. I suggest you clamp down on that curiosity for the sake of the children." Nobody would hurt these kids. Not while she was breathing. She did not know this man and had no reason thus far to trust him. So what if he worked here... and was handsome? She was constantly on her guard. Growing up in rough neighborhoods made one paranoid and mistrusting. She found it worked just fine for the sake of keeping her charges protected as much as possible.
"If you'll excuse me," she added, gently leading Elliot around the groundskeeper and towards the stairs, always keeping herself in between the two. "This one seems to have missed dinner, so I will need to get him something from the kitchen." Avoiding a confrontation with Lucille would be idle. The matriarch was probably pushing her limit. She needed to be left alone while Juliana took care of those she could. She was already hearing the sounds of several people leaving the dining room and moving about the house.
"Let's go find you some food, sweetie," Juliana murmured to Elliot as she guided him away. She glanced back at Maverick and gave him a half challenging look before continuing down the stairs. She would mention this to Lucille if she caught any other staff up here.
Notes: Moving to the kitchen. ♥

"Of course, ma'am. Whatever you command." His tone had turned sour in response to hers. This interaction had taken a turn and spilled into the dirt, soiling the colourful flowers that he had attempted to plant.
So much for making friends with the staff. It seemed to Maverick that the white-haired woman was 'above' the others. In his brief encounter with the Quinton's caretaker, Maverick decided that she wasn't worth his efforts. Her unfriendliness, her 'holier-than-thou' attitude had turned him from amicable approach.
"Nice talking to you!" He shouted after her as she was already on her down the hall. She took the child and vanished down the stairs, but not before her voice turned stark and her gaze turned wild. She had no desire to be 'one of them'. She could pretend to be a Quinton, if she wanted...
Maverick slowed his watch and moved down the stairs once he was sure that the blonde woman had vanished from his path. He too had a hunger, but he would satisfy it later when the woman wasn't in his kitchens.
The hall went quiet... Maverick heard his footsteps climb down the hollow staircase. He went for the showers first. When he was finished there was a chance that the kitchens would be completely hollow for him to venture his own dinner.

AM I WALKING TOWARDS SOMETHING I SHOULD BE RUNNING AWAY FROM?
ADDRESSED: NEVAEH MENTIONED: NIKOLAI, CATALINA, DAMON, LUCO, ELSIE NOTES: MOVING HER DOWN WITH THE REST OF THE QUINTON PACK!! XD TAGS: Ellie Aquila @aaka2013 @derek Aletheia was thrown aside. Her older brothers and sisters were not above a harsh shove or reckless hit when it served them well. The older twins were the worst of the worst; and still Aletheia loved to taunt them. It didn't make the shove ever less hurtful when Nevaeh cast her aside.
The stubborn halloween baby stomped off after them. Her feet were bare, but fierce against the ancient wood. She threw her hands over the iron railing and leaned her head over the banister to watch as the twins stormed down the stairs, to the second floor.
Her nose crinkled and she stretched her fingers around the iron until they scratched against her wrist. "You can't just push me away and expect me to go away, Nevaeh!" She hollered after her. Theia drummed her nails on the iron and then huffed, before running into her bedroom, slamming the door, and finding an outfit for the day.
Aletheia, despite her rough exterior, was rather 'girly' in her fashion. She returned out of her room with a cotton skirt, striped in blue plaid, and topped with a white tank top and jean jacket with green and white flowers stitched on the back.
The twelve-year-old blonde looked back over the banister to see the others were now running down the stairs. She was bumped in the back as her youngest sister ran past her and hopped down the stairs with a spark of excitement only seen in children under six. "Elsie! Watch where you're going!"
Theia shook her head, but followed the madness down the stairs to find that most of the Quinton's had already gathered there. She was curious, but curious enough to ask where the others were. Theia had hardly seen Catalina or Damon since arriving; and Luco had remained pretty reclusive, as well.
But Theia couldn't talk. She was the worst of them all when it came to be a recluse.

J U L I A N A
After meditating in the garden, Juliana knew she had to face her job. She enjoyed it and rarely took days off, but first days of school were never enjoyable for anyone. Now it was the first day at a brand-new school where the kids knew nobody. The town was fairly small, so the locals had to know each other. She hoped the little demons the children would be sharing their classrooms with wouldn't cause too much trouble for them. Being a new kid at school sucked, as Juliana could speak from experience. It was like being in the wild - where a new animal enters a territory and their fellows push and prod to see where they stood in the hierarchy. The children at school would do something similar to the Quintons to see how tough or how weak they were. The poor things were in a fragile state after the lose of their father, so she was betting it wouldn't go well.
The little nanny marched up the stairs, just missing Akila darting downstairs for breakfast. A commotion from Elsie and Elliot's room had her peering in. It looked as if the youngest boy had had a nightmare, but his mom was on top of it. Huh, good for her. She smiled at Elliot before stepping back and beginning to march down the hall, knocking on doors as she went.
"Oi! It's time to get up for school, ya lazy buggers!" She raised her voice in the affectionate way she had with the kids. She loved them, but they knew she took no bullshit.
She knocked loudest on Naveah's and Nikoli's bedroom doors. The eldest twins were already starting trouble in the new house. If they gave her lip this morning, they would regret it dearly.
Julia walked up and down, knocking on every door and opening it enough to call the names of every child that wasn't either downstairs or with Lucille. "Get dressed and come down for breakfast!" she added for each of them. She sometimes just yelled outside the doors, but little Elliot was upset, so she contented herself with raising her voice slightly after opening doors.
After all of this, Julia made her way back to Elliot and Elsie's room. She leaned on the door frame and watched the littlest boy with concern. "Need anything?" she asked, mostly to Lucille but also encompassing Elliot in case he needed something to drink after his nightmare. Strong tea always helped her.
She glanced at her watch. She would give the kids five minutes. If they didn't start marching, she would start knocking again.
Notes: Such a gentle nanny. x'D Mass tag for the kids.

"the fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose"
Lucille froze atop the staircase. Her head turned where it could and out of the corner of her eye Lucille saw the caretaker of the children walking along the decorated throw rug on the hallway's floor.
"Was wondering where you went off," Lucille said when the British caretaker made her over to the Quinton mother. "Elliott had a little scare this morning, but I've got it..." She was sure of her skills as a mother, but Lucille wanted to work at it.
Her fingers wrapped instinctually around her little boy's body, hugging his form close to her chest. Elliott was getting bigger; Lucille struggled, as a small woman, to support him the way she used to be able to.
"Could you see if Catalina and Damon are getting ready?" She asked of the nanny. "I haven't seen them all..." She looked behind her. Just for a second. And for a second she saw a woman, in the hallway, with her hair cropped.
The woman was blonde, dressed in a verdant flapper dress with tassels flaring at the bottom and at the sleeves. Her headband stretched across her golden hair and protruded outward with a decorated floral arrangement.
The blonde woman smiled and bowed her head. Her lips parted as if she were about to speak. And then! just like that, she was gone. Lucille blinked and she was gone. "Sorry..." The mother muttered and shook her head, attention drawn back to the caretaker.
"Shall we head downstairs?" Lucille suggested. "I smell breakfast." She pretended to smile. But her mind had drifted to something else. To the woman she swore was only in her mind.

J U L I A N A
Julia watched with quiet alertness as Lucille held the youngest boy and comforted him. Good. Maybe it was best she hadn't been the first here to see what was causing Elliot's distress. Reawakening Lucille's motherly instincts would do them all some good in the long run. Now, if only she would use those abilities to put those damn older twins in their place. Juliana was a disciplinarian, but Lucille had her limits to what the nanny could enforce on her children.
She shrugged when Lucille simply voiced her wondering where the nanny was. Julia had every right to explore the gardens in the morning. Nature always helped her balance herself. Other religions based themselves on humanoid figures and temples. She much preferred her worship of things in the natural world instead of those that existed in the minds of people. Stepping outside of her job and her stress at least once in a while helped center her. Lucille knew of Julia's rough past in London, but they never spoke about it.
Juliana took a bracing breath when Lucille asked her to rouse the older kids. She huffed. "I gave them all five minutes to get up and present themselves before breakfast. If they don't listen, I'll pry them out of bed myself."
She suddenly froze and stared at a figure that had shimmered into existence just behind Lucille and Elliot. He was difficult to make out, but Julia thought she saw dark hair, old-fashioned clothing from maybe the mid-eighteen hundreds, and terrifying eyes. His eyes glowed like freshly polished rubies. They were red and full of vindictive pleasure, as if he was enjoying the child's suffering and his mother's distress.
Julia was opening her mouth to warn her boss about the scary figure, when he simply faded. She clamped her mouth shut. Maybe her stress was causing her to hallucinate, but she could've sworn the temperature in the room warmed a few degrees.
Something odd was going on with this house. From the moment Juliana had stepped foot in this house, she had felt negative energy. Someone or something was not pleased they were here. She bit her lip, but decided not to express her fears to Lucille. She had no proof for one thing, and for another, they were in the process of repairing their recently cracked relationship. She ended up leaving Lucille to comfort her youngest son and checked in on on the others.
Akila and Elsie had rushed passed her heading towards the dining room, so she didn't worry about them. She gave the other doors, including Catalina's and Demon's, several warning knocks. Five minutes went by quickly, and Julia took no prisoners with preparing for the day. The kids needed to be on time for school, and she knew she would need to pick them up later while Lucille checked on the progress of refurbishing the old house. Maybe Juliana would work on making her room more comfortable and plant some more charms to keep everyone safe from whatever dark entity was stalking this house.
