The Grand Staircase is the most intricate and most detailed entry of the house. It's a marbled stair with a soft click to each slick step. The railings are made with old oak and held with the strength of silver iron. It's at the centre of the house, the heart that holds it together.

Juliana stalked up the stairs, not even sure why she was so annoyed. She didn't even know the butler, let alone been here long enough to have even gotten to know passed his name. She poured icy water on her hot temper and took calming breaths, inhaling on one step and exhaling on the next.
Lighting candles and drawing a bath sounded like a good idea. The children wouldn't be home for hours, and she desperately needed time to herself.
She was just stepping onto the landing of the second floor when she heard a voice crying out after her.
"Juliana, wait!" It was Victoria. "Juliana!"
The tiny nanny balled her fists. What did she want, anyway? She didn't owe anyone an explanation for necking with Michael. Juliana had just been surprised... and maybe the tiniest bit jealous. She had never found love in her life - not real love, anyway. Her supposed loving boyfriend had not cared for her in the slightest. She was meant to pleasure him and nothing else: no love, caring, or loyalty.
Juliana stopped on the landing and turned, her grey skirt swirling around her. She tightened the string on her purple blouse and straightened up as if bracing for a heavy impact.
"What?" she asked, her grey eyes stormy, but her face blank. "You don't have to explain yourself, Victoria. You can snog whomever you want." She shrugged her shoulders stiffly as if shaking off an irksome fly. "I was just annoyed you couldn't bother to do it in private." She rubbed her eyes tiredly. "I'm terrified for when the children start dating if I'm honest."
Juliana took a deep breath and puffed it out. "If you're worried I'll taddle on you like a six year-old, I won't. Your business is your own, but I warn you, if I catch you snogging... or doing anything even more inappropriate with anyone in a place where the children can stumble upon you, you will get the tongue lashing of your life." She narrowed her eyes. "I would do anything to protect them, and that includes them seeing... adult things too early in life." Color very faintly touched her cheeks. She hadn't had a lover since her abusive ex, and it was only now seeing Victoria and Michael lip-locked did she realize she was starving for love and affection.
Maybe someday, but Lucille probably wouldn't approve. She was very strict and closeted, Lucille was. She would have a stroke if she learned Juliana was a wiccan instead of a brainwashed christian. She controlled her own life, but the children took up so much of her time and energy. She was practically their second mother with how often she was with them and what she took care of.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
Victoria landed herself on the stairs. Unwilling to move forward to address the caretaker with more respect. She instead positioned herself below the height of the blonde and looked up. It was out of fear and submission and desperation that Victoria had since lowered herself too after...
She shook out her head in protest, small and subtle, but strong enough that the British nanny would notice. "It wasn't like that..."
Victoria felt her throat close up and in an attempt to win Juliana over, the short British woman climbed down another stair as if lowering herself any further would win appraisal. "It was a situational misconduct. We're not together; nor do I plan for us to be."
Victoria continued at last. Despite the children's nurse notice to waive explanation, Victoria felt compelled to share what had honestly happened rather than what had been seen. Which could be damning to whoever had walked in at that moment, she'd admit.
"The door locked. We weren't supposed to be in there.... alone." Victoria's voice had fallen down an entire octave and her throat was still locked down, shoving the tone of her voice into a soft hum of sorts. Despite Victoria's attempt to be perceived as 'put together' or 'strong', she always came out looking weak and uncontrolled.
"I'm an abandoned mother. Do you think I have time for a quick snog behind the cupboards?" Her last attempt. She hated losing control. Control was all she had.

Julia blinked because she had honestly thought the other woman would just drop the subject entirely out of embarrassment and get along with her bloody job. Nope. She was a nervous babbler. When she was younger, Juliana had been the same way. After enduring a life of constantly having to be shut up, she kept her responses generally short and sharp unless she was talking to the children. Okay, most of them. Nikolai and Naveah could get on her last nerve more easily than the others could.
Instead of getting angry like she wanted, Juliana staunched her temper like stomping out burning embers and listened to what Victoria had to say with raised eyebrows. So... it was a weird misunderstanding, was it? Something told the nanny that wasn't exactly the case, but what did she know or care? She found it weird Victoria felt like she needed to defend her actions. Juliana wasn't judging her for the snogging itself but for where they had been. Maybe it had been an accident, but it had been a weird one. She didn't know the pantry locked. It seemed like a weird thing to close off to the house, but again, what did she know about old houses? There could've been a lock to keep servants from helping themselves to food back in the day. People were quite cruel.
Shaking her head, Juliana walked down the handful of steps separating them, stopping on the one above Victoria simply because she was a head shorter than the dark-haired woman and put her hand on her shoulder. "I get what you're saying, I do." She shrugged at the last bit the other woman seemed to have sort of blurted out. "Maybe you might not have time, but I'm sure you crave it. We all want a little affection sometimes." She smiled sadly as she said it because she, Juliana, was craving that attention as well. With the handful of hunky new house staff members she had seen since arriving, it was even harder to feel a little tempted to flirt here and there... just behind Lucille's back and when the children didn't need her - which was hardly ever.
"Between you and me, I would've been in a similar situation... had my baby survived." She dropped her hand from Victoria's shoulder, feeling a phantom pain from when she was younger and stupider and sadder. She touched her flat stomach, remembering it being swollen and carrying a developing life inside. "So... if you ever need a free evening, just let me know. I'll watch over your little ones. The oldest Quinton children no longer need a nanny. There are some free spots." She smiled, deciding to at least attempt to build bridges with the other household staff. She already knew she was judged for being a long-term employee. Lucille had plenty of wealth thanks to her husband's money, and her arriving with the family had made her seem like a rich person as well and more than likely thought they were pompous.
Juliana dropped her hands to her sides and then simply crossed her arms since she tended to fidget if she wasn't holding them steady. "Denying yourself a bit of happiness could mean hurting yourself in some way, and if you're hurting, your children will hurt, too." She bit her lip thoughtfully. "Even if it was nothing with Michael, I think you should branch out and try and find yourself a reliable partner. Nobody should have to raise children on their own. It takes a lot out of you." She had seen it for herself when tending other client's children, but she had seen it firsthand with Lucille. Not that it had been very long since her husband died, but the poor woman was already having issues with keeping herself together on a regular basis. She surfaced whenever her brood needed her, but she also seemed like a shell of herself. Simple mourning, she knew, but Juliana worried about the long term effects on the kids.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
It startled her how fast this conversation had switched. Victoria hadn't realised until now how much she craved it. Still sensitive, however, Victoria chose to avoid those late nights cravings. "Don't think about it." She lied softly.
But the woman continued and Victoria felt her throat close and pity filled her senses. Had Victoria lost her children... had she lost Olivia, even if she hadn't been planned, it would've killed her. "I'm sorry." Victoria mumbled after she had finished. There wasn't much else she could say.
"Unfortunately," Victoria responded with a slight shrug. All other thoughts she tried to empty from her mind. "Sex and dates, it just doesn't work for me. And my children... I don't ever want them..." She frowned. Whatever the caretaker was offering, she didn't want to insult her. It was a genuine, a kind offer.
Victoria shuffled down another stair. Her hands shaking and her feet numb, the British brunette shook out her head with one last thought. "I appreciate you, Juliana." She said finally, and her hands did fall to her side. "If you ever need... anything. You know where to find me." One rare glimpse at a smile.

Julia watched the other woman, moving from a would-be relaxed pose to a defensive one. The little blonde crossed her arms and frowned at the taller brunette with an arched brow when she mumbled, "Don't think about it." That is what Juliana called bullshit. She disliked being lied to, especially when the children did it, but Victoria was not her charge nor really her concern at this point. Fair enough, most women were awkward and shy about their physical relationships or lack thereof. Julia had been raised in such a manner, but she had learned the hard way that it was better to tell the truth and deal with things than simply lie and lie until the entire thing blew up in your face.
She took a steadying breath and she held in a wince as Victoria expressed her condolences as to the loss of her would-be child. True, Juliana wasn't completely over it nor would she ever be, but she had moved on that much. It happened years ago now, and she had put her past behind her where it belonged. Unable to speak for the time being, the nanny simply nodded in acknowledgment and gratitude.
When Victoria told her that dating simply did not work out for her, Juliana really had to work at biting her tongue and not pursuing the subject. Victoria was basically a complete stranger and co-workers or not, Juliana had no right to prod so much into Victoria's past or present unless it concerned the Quinton children she was a guardian of.
"I appreciate you, Juliana."
Juliana raised her eyebrows at that. When was the last time she had heard those words? She couldn't remember.
"If you ever need... anything, you know where to find me."
That left the nanny even more stumped, but she nodded and stepped aside. "Lucille was in the foyer by the front door last I saw her," she said quietly, her eyes on one of the sunny windows above.

"the fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose"
It didn't take long for the house to fill with noise. Lucille knew that noise as nothing other than her children coming home from school. Lucille crept out into the hall where the stairs spiralled from floor to floor. The front door opened into the second floor; Lucille positioned herself at the front of the room so that she was the first person the children would see as they came running through.
Lucille frowned when Damon was the first one through the door. The boy was always causing some sort of drama in this house. "How was your first day?" Lucille asked, though she wasn't sure she really cared. "Did the little ones make it out all right?"
A mother was supposed to love all of her children, but she focused on the youngest. She worried more about Elliott and Elsie in the new place than any of the others. Her heart did fall for Akila, who was certainly overwhelmed by the whole of this.
"Where are the twins?" She asked, noticing that Nikolai and Nevaeh had come through. She smiled at Catalina, who come in shortly after Damon.

Seeing his mother as he entered the room made him stop dead in his steps. "Mother." He said to her. "It was uh fine, I saw Demitrey and Milo. They where very happy to see me again after fathers.... well you know." He had said to her surprised at how much he had spoken to her. He normally would just nod and walk away from her as fast as he could. Huh how odd of him today.
Catalina smiled warmly at her mother and said "it was fine a lot of people where surprised to see us in school I guess. Damon reconnected with his friends Demitrey and Milo. I have been getting started at by the boys and loved my reading class." She said to her mother.

ƬΉΣIΛ
AM I WALKING TOWARDS SOMETHING I SHOULD BE RUNNING AWAY FROM?
ADDRESSED: LUCILLE, ELLIOTT, CATALINA MENTIONED: NIKOLAI, NEVAEH, DAMON, ELSIE NOTES: WASN'T SURE WHERE TO THROW THEM IN-- HOPE THIS IS OKAY, CHARLIE. TAGS: Aquila Ellie @aaka2013 @fez After the embarrassing debacle at school, Aletheia decide it was best to walk Elliott to the house. His twin had been tethered to his side ever since the incident; and since their mother hadn't gotten the call from the school, Theia wanted to be the first to tell mother what happened. She knew that if those obnoxious twins got to her first that it would be spun out of control.
Aletheia came through the front door with Elliott's hand trapped inside hers. She walked slow, and she hated holding his hand. It was sweaty and shaking in her grasp. Theia never liked to hold hands-- she was an empath. She was sensitive to touch. She could feel all his fear and all his pain. It hurt to hold his hand. It just hurt.
Lucille was waiting directly inside when the kids came through the door. The oldest set of twins disappeared to the kitchen before their mother even had a chance to greet them, but Damon walked through even said 'hello' and then vanished upstairs to his room.
Catalina made a remark about the boys in her class, and Theia made a very loud and obvious scoff in her direction. "Please." She muttered sarcastically. "You're so full of yourself." Theia rolled her eyes, while dragging Elliott over to their mother. "Mom has better things to worry about then you whoring around the ninth grade." Theia was looking for a rise-- she liked to watch her sister's tick.
Theia finally let go of Elliott's hand, and pushed him towards Lucille. "Your son had a meltdown in the courtyard today." Theia gave another glance at her older sister and scoffed once again. She waited for a retort, but sometimes Catalina could be too... nice.

Catalina scoffed at Theia as she has said something about whoring around with the boys from school. "At least I'm not a stuck up little bitch like you." She said as she left before her mother could say anything about what just came out of her mouth. She headed up to her room to start her homework.
