Mazikeen feels infinite and immortal. Buffy inspires her to imagine and be creative. There is a clear leader in their partnership and without Buffy, Mazikeen would be nobody. Her life would be dull and boring. Mazikeen relies on Buffy for almost everything and seeks her advice when she's struggling with a decision, usually moral. Together they were an unstoppable laughing box and they connected on levels Mazikeen could only have dreamt about. Elijah had been exposed to children his entire life and that experience beamed brighter the more he was around Mazikeen. He's not embarrassed to play 'make believe' with her or sit on the couch and watch cartoons until it's too dark to see outside. Just because Mum was turned into a succubus by an evil man with red eyes, didn't mean he took the wolf out of her. He just hid it away for a while. It took another hundred years, but Mummy became a the wolf she always needed to be: needed to be to give us life. Mum was never meant to have children.... but she did. Two children, actually: a human and a witch.
Mum's pregnancy was really hard. She never would've made it, she told us, if we hadn't been saved by the dead. The dead were a group of witches called the ancestors. They had a home underneath the ground that it is said to hold the most powerful of all magics. Mum said we were safe there; but I was always afraid. The ancestors were demanding, cruel, and invasive.
Mazikeen died before she was ever born. She was too weak, and I was too strong. The ancestors call me the 'witch hunter', because I killed my sister when we were still inside mummy's belly. When Mazikeen was born, the witches breathed new life into her, and turned her not only into a witch, but one of the most powerful witches on the ancestral plane. They breathed darkness into her, but I was the one pulling the strings.
When Mazikeen wasn't being manipulated by the ancestors, her and I were wreaking havoc in the underworld. I could get Mazikeen to do anything if I just asked her nicely. Mazikeen was my favourite partner in crime, and together we made quite a mess out of the dead. Mother Sibly, Mazikeen's greatest teacher, said that we brought life back into the dead. She liked us, but she loved Mazikeen: loved her so much that she insisted Mazikeen call her 'mummy'.
Since we were babies, Mazikeen and I were raised by an army of supernatural women. Our mother was the first of the hybrids, but she wasn't the last. Mum's best friend was our only other source to the world above. Shiloh Hale was like another mum to us. Mazikeen started calling her Bambi, and it stuck. Bambi was our bestest friend; 'one day', she promised, 'one day she'd save us from the monsters and take us home'.
My sister started school with Mother Sibly and the other ancestors; and I was stuck with my real Mum all day. Not that I'm complaining. I would much rather spend time with Mummy than learning from the bitch queen and her house of minions. Mum, Bambi, and I had our own school, and they gave me lessons in history and language. She taught me what was important in life; she taught my about my father and about what it meant to be part of a pack. Bambi taught me how to be wild and free.

PART TWO
THE ANCESTOR'S CHILD

Buffy was lucky.
I never got to play or laugh with Mummy and Bambi. The ancestors said there were more important things for me to do. I learned about magic, and I learned how to control situations that didn't suit my needs. They told me I was special, because I wasn't supposed to be here. I was supposed to be dead, the ancestors told me.
When I was still waddling around on toddler legs, I learned that I had a special power. I had the power to change werewolves into hybrids. I just don't really understand how it works. It was a mistake at first. I was with Bambi; she was playing with me, hanging out with me, holding me, when I infested her mind with a memory I was never supposed to give away. Telepathy was the first skill I acquired. I could dip into other people's minds and see things that they didn't want me to see. I could steal things. I could take away the memories that they didn't want to keep anymore.
The first memory I stole was of my mother's rape. She ripped it right back out again. Except that she didn't take it away from me... she just hid it, and I gave it away. I gave it to Bambi... an accident, a true accident; but I sent it to her and it made Bambi scream out in pain. It made Bambi's head hurt and as she was screaming, I was crying, and more memories came flooding into her like an ocean in a hurricane. Bambi was given everything that night, including knowledge of how to become a hybrid.
I don't know what happened. Mum and Bambi didn't tell us much. We-- I just did what everyone else told me to do. Bambi left us soon after that, because Mummy told us she needed to find a way out for all of us. The ancestors wouldn't let us leave... no matter how badly Mummy wanted us to. Bambi was supposed to come back with help; but she never returned. Mummy started working on other ways to save us.
After Bambi's escape, the ancestors kept us close. Well, they kept me close. Buffy and Mum would spend time together, while I was trapped in the ancestors 'school' for hours and hours, for days and days. The ancestors even made me sleep in their homes, under their protection. Sometimes I would dream that Mummy got us out and we were living up above with the rest of the rosey cheeks... but I'm still waiting for that miracle to happen.
While Buffy.... Buffy got her freedom.

The first memory I stole was of my mother's rape. She ripped it right back out again. Except that she didn't take it away from me... she just hid it, and I gave it away. I gave it to Bambi... an accident, a true accident; but I sent it to her and it made Bambi scream out in pain. It made Bambi's head hurt and as she was screaming, I was crying, and more memories came flooding into her like an ocean in a hurricane. Bambi was given everything that night, including knowledge of how to become a hybrid.
I don't know what happened. Mum and Bambi didn't tell us much. We-- I just did what everyone else told me to do. Bambi left us soon after that, because Mummy told us she needed to find a way out for all of us. The ancestors wouldn't let us leave... no matter how badly Mummy wanted us to. Bambi was supposed to come back with help; but she never returned. Mummy started working on other ways to save us.
After Bambi's escape, the ancestors kept us close. Well, they kept me close. Buffy and Mum would spend time together, while I was trapped in the ancestors 'school' for hours and hours, for days and days. The ancestors even made me sleep in their homes, under their protection. Sometimes I would dream that Mummy got us out and we were living up above with the rest of the rosey cheeks... but I'm still waiting for that miracle to happen.
While Buffy.... Buffy got her freedom.
PART THREE
THEIR FIRST BREATH
Time moved differently in the underworld than in the real world. When I finally made my escape, only a year had passed since Mum left their world and joined the ancestors in theirs. To them, it was impossible that Mazikeen and I could exist in their timeline. I was given a single name: 'Shapen Hutson', because Mum said she'd be the easiest to talk to. Mum said that she'd be the one to help. She liked kids, and she trusted them. It was our best bet, she said.
I found Shapen, but it was Elijah that saved me. He told me stories, and he took me home... to Mum's home. It was the one that I grew up in with Mum and Bambi; but neither were there. It was Bambi that I needed to find, and it was Bambi that walked right through that door.
