As they arrived back at the house, Charlie felt more at ease. The house had a rustic yet modern style to it.
He walked into the kitchen, opened the fridge and took out a carton of juice. He almost drank straight from it but then glanced at Reese and decided he should set a good example. He plucked a glass from the cabinet.
"I was thinking of going for a run..."
He desperately wanted to get out of the dress clothes, but instead of relaxing he felt like he needed to burn some energy. Running was a common outlet for him. Both in human and wolf form.
"Maybe I'll stop at the store later. You want anything? Maybe some...I don't know....ice cream?"
He took a swig of juice but eyed his sister with a smile. He was unabashedly trying to butter her up. So much had happened this morning, a lot of unexpected events. He was trying to do his damnedest to be positive.
"Hey, I know you weren't very impressed with our new...friends...today, but I don't think they are all that bad."
He didn't expect his sister to agree with him, but it was something that she was going to have to accept eventually. This alliance just had to happen.

Reese had already kicked off her shoes and threw her hair into a braid out of her face before they walked through the front door. Dressing "nice" was exhausting and her heels hurt!
Ice cream? Really? That was supposed to make up for the disaster that was this afternoon? Reese could've spat out some snarky comment that would further more discipline, but she chose a different road.
She shook her head. "I'm okay."
She could tell he felt bad. He was making every effort to fix the mess of the funeral, but it was no use. Reese wasn't having it! She was tired of the wolves treating her like a babysitter and she was tired of the witches thinking they were always better than the wolves. No matter where she was, Reese couldn't win-- or even compromise.
Friends? Ha!
"Friends is being generous... even if it was sarcastic." Reese frowned. "You really telling me you could be 'friends' with someone like Bonnie Bellamo?"

His attempt to smooth things over was shot down in an instant. He wasn't surprised. He knew Reese wouldn't let things go that easily. What was a little surprising though, she appeared to be trying to restrain herself from lashing out at him. He was so used to her throwing a tantrum, and flipping out when she was angry. She was clearly still in a sour mood but was being more calm about it.
He smiled warmly at her again. She was trying! He knew that she was frustrated with her position in the pack, and he was the worst offender when it came to treating her like a child. She would always be his baby sister, and he would always have difficulty with letting her grow up.
He sighed then and loosened his tie. He pulled the garment from beneath his collar and he felt like he could breathe better. He rubbed the spot between his eyes. It was exhausting to try to maintain a positive attitude, but it was so deeply rooted in him. The idea that no matter how bad things could get, his attitude was the only thing he could control. Very few people saw Charlie in moments like this when he could just decompress. Except for Reese.
He was expecting a lecture from Elijah later, and he would be the one to get the brunt of it....he was the adult, and he still intended to shield Reese as much as he could.
"You really telling me you could be 'friends' with someone like Bonnie Bellamo?"
His sister's words rang in his head and he thought about them seriously. He didn't know any girls like that, not in Baskerville. She seemed like the high maintenance type. Shallow. Mean girl. All stereotypes of course. Was he a dumb jock? She probably thought so.
"Honestly, I don't know. I don't understand her and you don't have to be friends with someone to understand them. But how much can you really know about someone from a first meeting?"
He glanced at Reese thoughtfully and rubbed his neck as he spoke.
"Maybe she was having a bad day. Maybe she is scared and doesn't want to show it. Maybe she chipped a nail and there are no salons in Baskerville."
There was a note of teasing in his voice at his last remark but then he grew serious again.

Great... Charlie was always a peacekeeper, which was SUPER annoying because Reese was not. She'd rather start a fight over what she thought was right then bend over and take it.
Sometimes it felt like Charlie was willing to do anything to keep peace even if it meant compromising his own morals. Reese knew her brother better than anyone. It upset her to see him crumble under the weight of some high school type "mean girl".
"First meetings tell us a lot..." She mumbled.
Charlie rambled on. Maybe this... maybe that... What! Was he into her?
Reese scoffed involuntarily. "All these 'maybes' make me think you kinda like her. Just saying... be careful, Charlie. She's pretty, but she kinda looks like the type of girl who would put you in a collar and make you bark like a dog." She smirked up at him.
"I'm actually more worried about the younger sister."
Reese shrugged, "I think she's going to have a hard time here... Baskerville is not for everyone." Reese pursed her lips and looked down at the tile. Sometimes, she really hated this small town.
