The most interesting part of Daya's life is her beginning. Her parents were an anomaly in the demon world. She was special, because she was loved. Born as Margaret Louise Coleman, Daya was the daughter of an incubus and a human woman. Her father wasn't like the others. He was different. He fell in love and he decided to blend. He was a white man. Her mother was a black woman in 19th century America. Her parents couldn't live together. Even though slavery was abolished before Daya was born, she never lived with her father and mother at the same time. Their lives had to be separate. Her parents had four children together before the town figured out her parents were illegally married. Her father was sent to prison, her mother escaped conviction. In prison, her father was murdered by humans.

Meanwhile Daya's mother changed her name to "Coleman" and remarried a few months after his death. She never fell in love, again, but she protected her children. Daya and her older brothers were forced to protect themselves by hiding the demon inside. Without their father to guide them, the four became a force to be reckoned with. Eventually, the deaths and chaos they brought to a small town in Missouri forced their mother to send them off and discover their own identities. She feared their antics would demolish the life she built for herself and her other children.

That's when Daya met... Cassius. She didn't learn until later who he was. He was the first incubus that she met that wasn't one of her brothers. The two of them clicked almost instantly. One could call them "friends". Their bond was unusual. It was unexplainable. Daya became his sounding mind after centuries of being mad. She built his empire; she taught him how to organize his followers; she never left his side. For the next century, she helped him tear down towns, build cities, bury lives..

... and she loves every second of it!
