The Kitchen is much smaller than the average kitchens built for the wealthy in it's time. Before servants, the Ramsay's were efficient and Mary Ramsay, specifically, loved to cook and learn from her nannies when she was young. The love for kitchen required a stadium made for her without the thought of someone else. While very ornate and ready for views, the kitchen is kept hidden and mostly private, behind a closet for servants to flow in and out of without detection.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
Victoria dismissed the blonde American's arrogance and turned her attention to the staircase that was located at the back of the hall. It led to the basement and in turn would lead her to where the servants quarters were. Even when the Quintons were not around, the servants of the house stored hidden in the kitchens and storerooms of the basement. She knelt to her children, handing over the remainder of her things. "Stay here. I'll be back." She left them on their own, which was a possible hazard. Leaving her children with these strangers... Owners and her employers, but strangers nonetheless.Victoria rushed down the staircase until she was hurtled into the kitchens. Most of them were stashed there, eating their supper and socialising at the end of the light. She hated to interrupt. Victoria was almost never here for these times in the evening, but she was here tonight because it was a very special and unusual night.
"The Quintons-- they're here." Her tone was rushed. She had run down in a fit. "Mrs. Quinton wants all of us upstairs in the Main Foyer at the Heart of the House. Now." Victoria's cockney reigned over her 'servant's voice' in that moment as she struggled to regain some of her sense.

Michael laughed in a rich baritone voice. He had just made a joke and everyone was laughing. It was the end of the night, and everyone was trying to relax a bit after their shift. To Michael this was imperative. Everyone needed a time to relax to avoid getting worn out. They were eating and drinking and telling jokes, and Michael was a master of finding ways to relieve stress. As he raised his glass for another sip, they were all interrupted suddenly by their Estate Manager Victoria. "The Quintons-- they're here." She rushed to say. Michael slowly lowered his glass as he took in her frazzled demeanor and labored breathing. "Mrs. Quinton wants all of us upstairs in the Main Foyer at the Heart of the House. Now." He put his glass down and walked over to Victoria and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Take a breath Victoria. It will be alright." he said calmly. He let his hands fall from her then as he glanced back at the others. "Bloody Americans, they have no patience. I'm sure she realizes that she is early and we had no way of knowing she would be here now." He picked up his vest that he had taken off earlier to be in better comfort, but now he donned the butler garb so he'd look more presentable. Michael knew how to soothe and charm people, and a woman, a young woman in fact, Michael had no doubt he could placate her if her feathers were ruffled. He stood before Victoria again as he smoothed his hands down the front of his uniform. He gave her a charming smile. "Well then, let's go meet our new Overlord."Addressed: Victoria Mentioned: Lucille, Quintons Tags: Ellie Piper Alec @patch @aaka2013 Notes: I think I'm really going to like Michael LOL

Tristan followed his fellow people to go and meet the lady that was now their new boss. Gosh this was going to be something. After all he is the cook in the house. Hopefully her little brats wont demand special kind of food or anything of that matter. All he cared about at this time was to get done with his work and go out to the woods for some hunting and piece and quiet by himself.
Alice just looked up from her drink and rolled her eyes. Clearly this new family would now that its been a very stressful and tiring day for the staff that all they wanted to do at that moment was to be left alone and relax as much as possible till the next day whwn everything would be back to chaotic again.
Chapin waited as everyone else got up. She followed them none the less. Not wanting to get into trouble by the new boss or Emma even though Emma was like a mother figure to her she still would not like to be in her bad state of mood.

Michael found that Victoria's answer to questions like his was usually that everything was fine. She never let on if things were bothering her. Which is why he was surprised when she added a "Well....I think." to her original statement. He smiled down at her, then looked at her children who were just standing there staring at him. He gave them a smile as well. They all looked too forlorn.
The Quintons had dispersed and most were heading downstairs as Victoria commented that they should head downstairs as well. "You wanna come with us to the kitchens? Sorta hoping to stay outta sight for a while." Michael returned his attention to Victoria with eyebrows slightly raised. Her voice sounded almost tremulous?
"Don't mind if I do. Actually, Mrs Quinton asked me to bring something to her daughter's room so the kitchen was my destination." He flashed her a smile as they started to walk. Normally, Michael was fast and efficient when it came to his job. He had a lot of energy. He'd be flying around the kitchen with purpose, his long legs covering twice the distance than he was at the moment. He slowed his pace on purpose so he could continue to talk to Victoria.
"I'm sure they'll be needing me in the dining room soon enough. I'm not very good at hiding, I'm sure I'll draw lots of unwanted attention your way if you hang out with me too much." He turned his head and the smile and glint in his eyes made it clear he was teasing, although there was an element of truth to his words.
As they entered the kitchen, he broke away from the little group intent to get to work, but before he did he looked over his shoulder at them, his eyes falling to the children. He still didn't think their demeanor had changed any. "Maybe I'll put in a word with Tristan for a special dessert just for the Cromwell children." He had no idea if Victoria would agree with that at all but he didn't like the idea that her children might think their wishes were inferior to the Quinton children.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
When their little herd reached the bottom of the stairs, Victoria released the hands of her children and allowed them their freedom once hidden under the foundations of the estate. The release was a bit harsh, thrown out in the cement with carelessness. Victoria felt rushed. She felt undermined and overwhelmed. "Before we see Mrs. Quinton again..." Victoria's voice had lowered to a timid whisper. Her breath still wavered with her beating heart. "... there's something you two have to keep quiet."
Though Victoria didn't have to work hard, she did kneel to her children's level. "I had to tell Mrs. Quinton that daddy died. You cannot tell her who daddy is, how daddy and mummy met, and that we were never married."
She had to cram a lot of information into her children's ears before the other's walked into the kitchen's and all her secrets were poured out onto the floors. So when Michael came up behind her, Victoria jumped a bit, reaching up on her tiptoes and spinning 'round to face him with the force of the wind at her back.
"Whatever we do we keep it from Mrs. Quinton, yeah?" Victoria found herself smiling again and a invisible wink would've shown in her eye if he was looking hard enough. She hardly ever winked. It was something she found frustratingly difficult, but Matthew had commented on her funny little brow movements whenever sweet had a secret to taunt.

As their little group made their way to the kitchens, Oscar was silent the whole time. As was usually the case. Oscar preferred the silence. He rarely talked to adults, and other children even less. Out of the people in the house though, Oscar preferred the servants, they were usually quiet and left him alone well enough, and out of the servants, Oscar found Michael the most calming. It wasn't that he was calm, he was outgoing and social for an adult, but it was his energy that Oscar was drawn to. When the dark shadows came looming to Oscar, Michael brought a light that chased the darkness and silenced the noise when he entered the room. Oscar didn't mind spending a day inside reading in the corner if Michael was the one working in the room. Now the butler smiled down at them as he assured himself that everything was alright. Then he strode away presumably to return to his work. Oscar focused back on Victoria then. She was telling Olivia and him to keep quiet to Mrs. Quinton about certain things. Oscar frowned, but in confusion. Why did they have to keep secrets about their dad? Oscar would be the last one to speak about any of that anyways, but he couldn't understand why she was stressing it so much at the moment. Still, Oscar just shrugged and muttered, "Okay."Victoria had been squatting down to talk to them and when she rose, the butler turned back around mentioning something about desserts. The two came toe to toe as Victoria's breathlessly ended up including him the secret keeping. "Whatever we do we keep it from Mrs. Quinton, yeah?" Oscar watched the exchange, his expression never changing. The butler grinned conspiringly at their mother and his low voice could be heard. "I wouldn't have it any other way."Addressed: Victoria Mentioned: Michael, Olivia Tags: Ellie Piper Notes: From a child's perspective ahhh lol

I love the cromwells (and Michael)! xD tags: Aquila Ellie @aaka2013 Their little group trotted down the stairs and into the kitchen. They were followed by the butler and a few of the other staff members that had to head into the kitchens to start supper. Olivia was most entranced by Tristan. For he was the one with all the skills for tasty treats! Having been distracted momentarily by the thought of dessert, Olivia almost missed her mother talking instructions to them.
"Okay." Okay? Really...?
Olivia couldn't understand why her brother had dismissed this new 'reality' with such carelessness and such ease. So when her mother stopped talking and Oscar had blindly agreed to this silly little charade, Olivia puffed out her lip and stomped her foot like the child she sometimes denied she was.
"Why?" The seven-year-old grumbled with her nose wrinkled all the way up to the space between her brows. "Daddy's not dead..." Olivia reminded her mother as if she had somehow forgotten. "And I thought you were proud not to be married... You always said--" But then Olivia felt something clump in her throat and her brain kicked. Stop talking. It told her. So she did.
But when Victoria turned away from the Cromwell children, Olivia scowled at her brother in contempt for his 'easiness'. She huffed with a gruff of agitation. "Why don't you care?" She begged of him. "He's your dad too.... I don't want to lie." Her voice had lowered to a barely audible whisper. She didn't want to hurt her mother feelings... so she kept as quiet as she could.

After the adults talked, Oscar looked over at his sister who was showing one of her typical disgruntled faces. She pouted as she sputtered something to her mother about why they had to keep secrets, she started to ramble but then suddenly stopped as if she just realized what she was doing. Oscar would have ignored her complaining but as soon as Victoria was turned, Olivia whirled on him. "Why don't you care? He's your dad too...I don't want to lie."He stubbornly refused to look at her as he thought about everything that had happened to them. Before they came to the Ramsey House and now......after that scary episode upstairs. He still had fear and anxiety churning in the back of his mind and he ended up lashing out angrily at Olivia. "I don't care! If he's not dead then that means he just left us behind! He doesn't care about us, so I don't care about him." He calmed down almost instantly after his outburst, he looked at Olivia and then Victoria before lowering his head and looking away.He hated it here! He hated it so much! Didn't they understand? They had no idea what this house contained. Only Olivia probably felt it too. He now felt guilty for yelling at her. Victoria was probably going to punish him now. He could almost hear the mocking laughter in the halls. He could never tell them about it though, adults never listened to him. A kid. He looked up at the ceiling as he heard an unnatural creaking of the floorboards above, it didn't sound like it was made by people. It made his stomach turn. His head dropped down and he stared at the ground again. "I don't feel good."Addressed: Olivia, Victoria Mentioned: Michael Tags: Piper Ellie Notes: Poor Oscar XD

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
She could remember it all. His touch. His breath. The heat of his skin. The sound of his voice whenever he had a new idea to share. But that didn't prevent her from tearing apart his name and encouraging further hatred from the father's children.
Victoria had her back to them when Olivia initiated an argument that she could never win. Matthew's disappearance had different results on all the ones he left behind. Oscar took the worst-- it was different for Olivia. She had Victoria. Oscar didn't feel as if he had Victoria no matter how often she promised him he had her too.
Her heart burned. It clenched and felt tight inside her chest, but... Victoria was twenty-seven-years old and a sudden single mother. She would never understand how other woman managed this. "I know..." She said finally. Her voice barely a whisper. "I just... I need you to hang on for just a little bit longer. Please? This is important..." She was almost begging. Her children growing tired and worried and hungry... But she was trapped between work and being a mother.
"Could we fix them something here? Wherever Tristan is, he's not coming anytime soon... and I just want to get them home." Victoria felt exasperated. The staff should be in the kitchen's, preparing for the Quinton's supper, but where were they? Gossiping and chatting like school children.
Victoria held her breath. Allowing it only to escape when she felt the room go quiet. "I'm sorry... Don't you need to... serve the Quinton's or something? We're holding you up." She frowned, shaking out her head, as she directed her words towards Michael, the butler. His service was to the Quinton's and still he was standing there with her. With her children.

What did a child do when she had been insulted? She cried... of course she cried. Olivia was in tears. Not because her brother screamed at her but because her brother told her what she feared most. Her father was never coming home, was he?
"Don't say that! Don't say that!" Olivia shouted. But it was too late. The room had shifted into other topics and her mother was in a rush to see her children off. Food was the new topic on the table, but Olivia wasn't thinking about food. She didn't want to eat. She wanted to go home and she wanted to hit her brother, but that wouldn't do her any good now.
Olivia shuffled backward on the floor. Her back hit the table in the kitchens and she wrestled her limbs behind her to hold her from falling forward or slipping to the floor. Her feet had shoes that kept her from disappearing into the cement.

The sudden outburst from Victoria's son had Michael raising his eyebrows and looking from the boy to Victoria. It was short lived, but then her girl was crying now. His expression softened as Victoria pleaded with her children to hold on a little longer. "Could we fix them something here? Wherever Tristan is, he's not coming anytime soon... and I just want to get them home."
Michael turned then and busied himself again at one of the tables. He grabbed a silver platter and started loading it up with things. Lucille had requested water and crackers for the girl upstairs, but he found himself placing crackers and cheese...maybe some fruit..he placed some grapes on the platter and then a glass of water. He frowned at the water and placed a teacup on the tray. Maybe it was the Englishman in him but Michael believed a good cup of tea could cure any ailment. As he poured the tea he never fully moved his attention away from Victoria and her children.
"Of course! You can fix anything they want in here." He looked up at Victoria as he moved about the kitchen with ease. "I'm sorry... Don't you need to... serve the Quinton's or something? We're holding you up." He was tempted to help her fix something for her children as well, but she was right. He should get going before they came looking for him. Still, he shook his head and waved her concern away. "They can survive another minute without me. Sometimes I forget I'm not the only servant here, they have the others out there to wait on them." He gave a little chuckle then. Little did they know he often had to remind himself that he couldn't do everything. He sometimes took too much onto himself. He couldn't be in two places at once.
"But you are right, I am the butler and I don't want to anger our new employer." He took the tray then and walked around the table, he stopped next to Victoria and gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze before heading back upstairs. He delivered the tray to the girl's room, who was resting, and he left quickly so not to disturb her. Then he headed to the dining room, assuming most were there by now. He had no idea of the chaos he'd be walking into when he got there.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
THERE could have been a better approach to her screaming children; but for the lack of mental enthusiasm, Victoria chose to ignore most of what her children were sulking over. Olivia had riled herself into a full on sob fest and Oscar had done nothing but make it worse.Victoria could've consoled her children. She could've said something reassuring and drawn little circles on their backs until they stopped their huffing. but she didn't. She didn't want to. She didn't have the strength to handle anymore... mother. Moments like this made her wonder why women ever wanted more than two-- more than one even! She fixed them something fast and easy: macaroni and cheese that she had found at the very back of the cabinets and threw in a few vegetables to decorate their plates with. Without another word utter throughout the entire process, Victoria presented the supper to her children, sitting at the service table. She fixed them both glasses of apple juice and sighed when her tasks were complete.Snatching a few carrots up in the palm of her hand, Victoria joined the children at the table after the room had settled into complete silence. She supposed the rest of the staff would be wandering downstairs soon. The Quinton's ought to be starving now.Victoria's lowered her gaze onto the two Cromwell offspring eating slowly and silently without so much as looking at one another. Another sigh escaped her and Victoria lowered her hands to the table and reached them across to the centre of the piece.
"I'm sorry..." She said finally, soft and low. "This isn't how I thought this day would turn out. We ought to be home. I know that... But I can't..." She stopped herself from saying anything about their father in front of them. Now of all times especially. "I need you two to be patient with me and--" she was quick to add on: "with each other, got it?"

The butler hurried off to perform his duties, leaving the small family alone in the kitchen. He and Olivia stood in silence as Victoria whipped up something quick for their dinner. Macaroni and cheese. He wasn't exactly a picky eater, he'd eat most anything Victoria put in front of him with maybe a few exceptions, but he wouldn't complain about this, not even with a few veggies thrown in. It was one of Olivia's favorite dishes although he doubted she'd eat all her vegetables. As they finally sat and ate, they were all still quiet. Oscar wondered what they were all thinking...Was Olivia still mad at him? Was Victoria disappointed? He felt sort of guilty like he didn't have the right to demand things of Victoria. Her job was important. She always said so. She finally broke the silence and apologized to them. Oscar paused in pushing around the food in front of him to raise startled eyes to hers. She pleaded with them to be patient and understanding with her and each other. He glanced over at Olivia and then nodded and dropped his head to look at his food again. What if this family was so demanding that Victoria didn't have time for them anymore? He understood some things about the adult world that most wouldn't at his age. Adults have to work to make a living(unless they were rich), and families had to work to provide for their children. But it was only Victoria, without their father. What if it was too much for her? He frowned into his mac and cheese as he thought about the thing he dreaded most. "Are we....are we staying here tonight?"Just then one of the Quinton children screamed up the nearby staircase to one of the other Quinton children who apparently had not come down for dinner. "DAMON! IF YOUR LAZY ASS ISN'T DOWN HERE IN FIVE I WILL PERSONALLY SEE TO TEARING THAT MOP OF HAIR OFF YOUR HEAD AND SHOVING IT DOWN YOUR THROAT UNTIL YOU CHOKE!" Then shortly after the boy upstairs could be heard shouting back at the sister. Oscar turned to look at Victoria with a perfect "Oscar is displeased" face. Neither made Olivia feel secure. She finished her shells in silence. It wasn't until she was mere done with her dinner that her mother made an apology.
The smallest of the two children shoved the bowl of shells out from her under nose. She rolled her gaze upward to find her mother's and avoided her brother's in time for her mother to finish the formalities, expecting a response from her children next.
Tucked between her knees, Olivia fiddled with her little fingers, scratching at the surface of her nails in silence. She felt ashamed whenever her mother talked at them like that even if she had no reason to be ashamed. "Sorry mummy..." Olivia said quietly when no one else had anything to add.
Olivia bounced back and forth between her mother and brother when Oscar finally had something to ask. Victoria was never given a chance to respond, at least not instantly, since there was a scream coming from up above. One of the Quinton's were screaming at the height of their lungs.
Her eyes widened. "Please don't make us stay here..." Olivia begged now that the voices had disappeared. She couldn't possibly stand another hour-- let alone an entire night-- under the same roof as all those loud children. Yes-- she called them children. Even though most of them were a lot older than her and her brother.

Elliott hadn't said much since the start of the conversation. He felt awkward engaging with the adults when he was so small and so unimportant. He gestured only when Juliana had started to tuck him out of the man's view and lead him to the stairs. He waved a little farewell to the gentlemen dressed in dirt as he bowed into Juliana's side and followed her where there were smells of sweet foods and quiet suppers.
His hand reached for his caretaker's and Elliott hid behind her skirts as if it would somehow shield him from the horrors that stared down at him from the very halls that he was supposed to call his own. The house made him uncomfortable and his breath became hitched when it felt as if the portraits were watching his every step.
Elliott should've released his caretaker when they reached the kitchens, but at the sight of another-- multiple others-- he only grasped onto her tighter. It was the brunette with her two children that they had met on their way inside. She was like Juliana-- she talked funny, too.
The boy looked to Juliana for some sort of sign that these people were okay and he could release her slightly. Elliott was a timid child and even with certainty that he was in safe care, he was still always afraid of what could happen when the brave weren't watching.

JULIANA
Juliana gently escorted Elliot down the stairs into the kitchens. It was quite a large kitten that she hadn't been expecting. On her days off, she would be thrilled to bake treats for the kids. And herself. She had a bit of a sweet tooth. She looked around and spotted a few of the employee's children. Seeing no harm in having Elliot interact with them, she gently pushed in between his shoulder blades and encouraged him forward. "Go on," she murmured. "I'll get you some food." She quietly pulled away and gave the adult staff nervous smiles. Despite the chaos going on upstairs, she was determined to have everyone get along. That would keep the peace for the most part. She hoped.
When Juliana stepped away, she dug in the fridge for any leftover remaining from the Quintons above. She heated the food on the stove then put a plate on the table for Elliot. "Whenever you're ready, love," she told him softly before turning to get herself a similar dish. She wasn't particularly hungry, but it seemed like she should put something in her stomach.
Tea. A cup of steaming tea used to make her feel better no matter how badly her day was going. She found a kettle and made sure the burners weren't occupied before filling it with water and waiting for it to boil. She had tea with her from home. She got shipments once in a while.
Juliana watched Victoria and the other two children with a half smile. She couldn't imagine watching over a child and working. Looking after the children was her job. She had to admire Victoria for her hard work. She didn't engage in conversation, though. She kept to herself usually, anyway. Julia was a fierce protector, but was otherwise shy.
Notes: Dunno what to do with her. x'D

As their little makeshift dinner was disturbed by unruly Quintons, Oscar had turned to look at Victoria but before she could utter a response, two new figures entered the kitchen. A child and an adult. Oscar recognized the boy from upstairs in the hallway, he had been crying about his sister. The woman he thought was the nanny for the Quintons. She had the blondest hair that Oscar had ever seen. She could pass for a witch. He finished his supper and unabashedly watched the duo who entered the kitchen. He didn't particularly resent their intrusion, but he remained quiet the whole time. The nanny ushered the little boy to the table to sit with them while she fixed him something to eat. The boy seemed very shy and nervous, he hardly made eye contact at all. "Whenever you're ready, love," she spoke to the boy as she placed a plate of food in front of him. Her voice sounded to Oscar similar to the Butler's. She was even going to make tea too! Oscar curiously watched her boil water for tea and wondered if all people from England loved tea. Michael had his own private stash too. The nanny spared a few smiles at them, but no one really bothered to talk to anyone. He could tell his sister Olivia was bubbling with questions. The two adults merely nodded at each other. Oscar returned his attention to the little boy who looked more uncomfortable than anyone, even him at that moment. Oscar himself was not the best at social encounters but after a few minutes ticked by, his curiosity won out. "How come you don't eat with your family?"The question he blurted held no animosity, just a genuine curiosity as to why they missed out on their family dinner that seemed so important. Instead they were eating in the kitchen with the little Cromwell family, and weren't they seen like the servants? LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
As much as Victoria wanted to ease her children home and erase this entire evening, she couldn't. This was her job-- not the best career choice in her binders, but it paid better than her teaching position at Hill Secondary School in London. Before Victoria could come forward with a response, the room was filled with outsiders. The kitchen wasn't even safe anymore. The white-haired caretaker and a Quinton boy came into the servant's quarters, taking over immediately. Victoria's impression of the family was that all of them were brats and their mother was a snobbish bitch-- she was looking forward to seeing how this 'caretaker' proved to be. Snobbish like her boss or bratty like the children... Choosing to remain non-confrontational, Victoria closed her mouth and buried her attention in her plate, which had been almost untouched since she set in front of herself. She decided that she wasn't hungry, just annoyed and tired. Oscar was the first to say anything. Unexpected, since he almost never spoke to her or his sister. His teachers didn't have anything new to tell either. "Oscar." Victoria hissed as a warning. "Leave him be." While her voice was soft, it was firm and frustrated. JULIANA
Juliana poured herself some tea when the kettle whistled then turned off the stove. She stretched before joining Elliot and Oscar at the table. She cupped her mug of steaming tea in her hands, feeling at peace with the world for the first time since before the family's big move. A lot had happened since Micheal's death, but the Quintons seemed to be holding fast despite the bickering. Nobody was running away at least. Yet.
The nanny smiled at the little boy who she thought must be one of Victoria's offspring, the ones mentioned before when they first arrived at the house. He was inquiring about Elliot's absence at dinner, to which Juliana felt Elliot may not be fully ready to speak about just yet. Watching his sister have one of her fits couldn't have been pleasant on top of the huge change in their moving. The little ones especially had been through a lot, and Julia felt that they were tough as nails for holding it together.
Then Victoria accosted the boy for being so forward. He seemed curious, though, rather than rude. Juliana was under the impression he was a quiet boy, but like most children had natural curiosity. She and the Quintons were a new presence, but they didn't need to be strangers. They would all be living under the same roof after all.
"He's all right," Juliana said to Victoria, her grey eyes soft. She turned her attention to the two boys, and she noticed a small girl sitting quietly among them. Juliana must be exhausted if it was taking her a moment to piece together who was in the room. "The energy in the dining room was a little much for the pair of us." She bit her lip after those last words, thinking about how to explain what was happening without over-complicating things. "It's been a long day for all of us." She sipped her tea and briefly glanced at Victoria before lowering her eyes down to her drink. It had warmed her core just as she had hoped, but her mental break would be a brief one. The children still needed to be put to bed. She should probably do that once Elliot had eaten.
She grimaced, thinking about the mischief the eldest twins might be getting up to now that the family dinner was over. Julia felt she should probably hunt them down, but she mostly just wanted to sleep. What trouble could they get into as long as they stayed in the house, anyway?

IN MY EXPERIENCE, GHOSTS ARE MORE LIKE WISHES THAN NIGHTMARES.
addressed: oscar Mentioned: olivia, juliana, Lucille notes: elliott makes me happy Tags: Aquila Piper @patch Ellie
It felt awkward to be sitting there with all these people he didn't know and the longer he sat there the more uncomfortable it became. So much silence down here for a place that should be buzzing with busyness.
He picked at his food at first. Eating alone and surrounded by strangers was hard... What if they thought he ate weird or judged the food that was put on his plate? Was he not supposed to like this? Or was he supposed to like something else? It was all so confusing. Too many directions to think of!
Elliott finally settled on a sliver of chicken. Stuck in through with his fork and brought it to his mouth. Taking it in and swallowing, Elliott decided that he could eat after all. He took another bite and then another until someone started talking and he froze up again.
The youngest of the Quinton's lifted his gaze, his glasses falling to the tip of his nose so he had to look up and higher to see through them. Shaking his head, he responded: "I don't like to eat with them." He said when Juliana had opened her mouth and he had accidentally cut her off.
Elliott hushed himself almost immediately and glanced up at her with a silent apology, but continued nonetheless. "They're crazy... and mean." He added with an extra sharpness in his tone. Then his gaze fell to his plate again, sullen and fallen. "Guess I gotta eat with them tomorrow though..." He mumbled finally, sifting through the continents of his plate. He was hungry anymore.
Pushing his plate to the middle of the table, Elliott found his perk again and turned his whole body to face the two other children in the kitchens. The boy that had spoken to him was much older, probably around Theia's age, he guessed, and the other was closer to his age. She was awful pretty, with dark brown hair and bright blue eyes.
"Do you guys eat down here all the time? You could come eat with us! Maybe my brothers and sisters would behave better if there were guests at the table." He encouraged, but neglected to think of the repercussions of his impromptu invite, taking into account his mother's stern neediness for authority and perfection.

She acknowledged them only when she was addressed and it was a simple and small nod of the head.
When her meal was finished (finished meant that she had taken some of it in, but left most of it in the bowl), Olivia rested her head on the table and closed her lids to the scene. She had grown tired and bored and irritated all in the span of an hour.
Only did she open her eyes when she heard her brother talk to someone that wasn't supposed to be there. She had heard the footsteps enter the room, but figured it had been the kitchen staff. It was not. It was a Quinton, which surprised Olivia more than anything that night.
She lifted her head and leaned over the table to look past her brother and the slightly smaller boy now sitting with them. Victoria had snapped at Oscar for speaking out of turn, but the silver-haired Brit had assured her it was fine. Olivia titled her head to the pair and then found her gaze falling to the blonde boy again.
"I don't think we're allowed to sit with you." She said out of the blue, oblivious to the conversation before, but hearing them now. It sounded like an invitation, but Olivia was sure that the invitation couldn't be extended from the smallest Quinton there.
She shrugged then. "Besides," she went on. "We don't usually eat here. Mum takes us home..." Home. That word was so foreign to her still. America didn't feel like home. It didn't feel like home with her father. Without Matthew it was just another country and another life that she was falling into.

What he thought would be a quiet and solemn little dinner turned into something else as Oscar's gaze bounced around from the boy to the adults and then to his sister.Victoria had promptly shushed him when he spoke out of turn and he had the grace to look chagrined for a moment before the blond nanny smiled and said it was alright. She seemed pretty nice he decided. The the Quinton boy was speaking and Oscar found his answers only more curious. He was actually surprised that he said he didn't like eating with his family and that he thought they were mean and crazy. Oscar's surprise didn't stop there however. He stared dumbfounded as the boy then seemed to invite them to eat with his family at dinnertime. Oscar's mouth hung open and he almost responded but then his sister Olivia spoke up and he closed his mouth again. "I don't think we're allowed to sit with you." Olivia divulged some personal stuff about Victoria usually taking them home and Oscar glanced back at Victoria to see her expression and what she thought about all this. Olivia was sometimes too chatty for her own good.Oscar then looked back to the nanny and the Quinton boy. Olivia had stopped talking and Oscar observed the two strangers again. They both seemed tired and weary, the boy was also a nervous wreck but he seemed to be trying to look on the bright side. Suddenly Oscar felt a coldness, like despair. This house will swallow them up. "Do you like it here?" He glanced once over at his sister and then back to the boy with glasses. "We don't really like this house."He realized Victoria may not like what he was saying and admonish him again. Maybe he'd be in trouble for saying something like that to the new family living in the house, but he was past the point of caring in this awful place.Addressed: Elliott Mentioned: Victoria, Olivia, Julianna, Tags: Ellie Piper @patch @fez Notes: Aww...

He was pleased as she returned a grateful smile and accepted his offer for a cup of tea. He nodded and was about to turn around when she suddenly offered an apology for her cold behavior. There was a side to her that was seeping through that she hadn't shown to the staff yet. He had a feeling he'd have to rethink his first impression of their new "overlord". He shook his head with a smile raising his hand at her like there was no need to apologize. "Not at all. I imagine you've endured quite an ordeal."
A young man came back into the room then, Michael assumed it was one of her children although he was obviously not a child. He sat and patiently waited for Lucille to acknowledge him, so Michael turned and inclined his head at them satisfied that her attention was now on her son.
Michael entered the kitchen and received quite another surprise as he saw the Cromwell family sitting at the table with the nanny and one of the smaller Quinton children. He was actually brought up short as he watched this peculiar picture of the children chatting together. He raised his eyebrows as he heard Victoria's son Oscar say that they didn't really like it there.
"What's this? What's not to like? When this house is filled with such fabulous people?" The butler grinned and his gaze fell to the adults in turn and his charm radiated in full force. The fact that the Quinton boy and the nanny were in the servants area did little to concern him. "I can't believe you all had such a gathering here and I was not invited."

JULIANA
Juliana watched the children with something close to affection. Only Elliot was her charge, but that didn't mean she wasn't protective of others. She smiled and listened to their exchange while sipping her tea. The hot drink reminded her of home, and that brought her a bit of comfort. The house gave her odd chills she couldn't explain.
Speaking of chills... Julia looked up when she heard one of the other children, Oscar, say that he didn't like it here. Her eyebrows, which were darker than her blonde hair, scrunched together in concern. "What do you mean, sweetie?" she asked, her tone gentle.
Children tended to be more sensitive to bad vibrations in an environment. Juliana knew this thanks to years of studying Wicca and other spiritual branches. Animals tended to be more sensitive, too, but she hadn't seen Aurora act up since being here. But Oscar has been here longer, so he was more inclined to see something odd if there was anything.
"It's all right," she added, her gray eyes sparkling kindly. "You can be honest with me." She gave Michael an arched eyebrow when he grumbled jokingly about not being invited to their little unplanned gathering. Normally, she would be smiling flirtatiously and saying she was alright with him being here, but she was more concerned with the children instead of her pesky hormones. She hadn't been with a man since her ex-boyfriend, so it had been some time since she climbed into bed with someone. That made her restless. Michael had been a pretty man, but he had also been a married pretty man, and she liked Lucille. That one was off-limits on every count, so Juliana was able to focus on her job and see the family as part of her own instead of thinking naughty thoughts.
The men here were a different story and all appeared to be single. And edible. She flushed at where her thoughts were taking her. She desperately needed to find a different outlet for these feelings before they got her into trouble.

I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE OPTIMIST THE HOPER OF FAR-FLUNG HOPES AND THE DREAMER OF IMPROBABLE DREAMS Addressed: Juliana Mentioned: oscar, victoria Notes: long time no post! xd tags: @patch Aquila Ellie In the end Olivia couldn't resist. She had wrestled with the idea of voicing her input when the silver-haired woman was interrogating her brother. Perhaps she should've been kinder to the woman, but Olivia had a hunch that couldn't put to bed. She did not like her. Reasons could be figured out later.
Olivia leaned over the corner of the table, with her hair sprawled out underneath her, scratching the wooden table that hosted her finished supper. Tilting her gaze towards the pale woman, Olivia sighed and started before her brother could. "No offence, but how can we be honest with you when we don't even know you?" Olivia scoffed. "Not to mention the American lady doesn't even seem to trust you..."
She should've kept her mouth shut. She shouldn't have said anything at all. But Olivia had questions and this nanny wasn't about to be her answer. "We don't like this house." She breathed finally and her voice softened in an instant. "Don't you feel it? It's talking all the time... You just have to listen and watch." Her constants bit at her tongue. Olivia felt empowered and weak all at once.
Her mother would scream at her for this later. Or now. She was too afraid to meet her mother's gaze. She was locked on her brother and that woman, that small and fair British woman. Embarrassingly enough, Olivia could see some similarities between the nanny and her own mother. She tried to ignore them to her best of ability.

Emma had walked into the kitchen to have something to eat. She did not need to have the chief make her something to eat like the rest of the people who lived here. She had seen Damon leave to go to his bedroom from her guess. She looked around for some ingredients to make a small amount of stuffed shells. Something she had wanted to make in forever. Getting the shells in a pot and boiling them was the first step along with getting two eggs, a bag of shredded cheese, some sour cream, some parmesan cheese, and some sauce. Mixing the eggs with sour cream, parmesan cheese and shredded cheese together. She then grabbed a deep dish and put some sauce on the bottom, by then the shells where done and she began to stuff them with the mixture she just made. Laying them down in the deep dish and putting more sauce on top of them to just put more shells on top of that until all the shells where done. She topped it off with sauce and cheese and put it in the over at 345 degrees. She had to wait about a hour or so till they got done baking but the wait would be worth it.
Chapin had walked into the kitchen as she smelled something delicious cooking. Her stomach began to grumble as the smell reached her nose. She soon saw Emma sitting near the oven and went over to her. "Smells good." she told her. "Mind if I have some when its done." she asked her knowing she would not mind it if she had some of what she was cooking.

LIFE IS A PILE OF GOOD THINGS AND BAD THINGS...
She had let the little things slide. She had turned her head towards the chef's and the maids and managed to tune out the rumble that came from her children and the guests that surrounded them. She had watched as Michael entered the kitchens and an involuntary smile snuck across her lips. Pink splashed some colour into her pallid cheeks.
"It was just a gathering," Victoria arched her brow in a taunt. "But it's a party now." She had almost felt like winking, but she was afraid of her own playfulness. Despite Victoria's demeanour, small stature, and little features, she was still their boss and every move she made had to be carefully orchestrated.
Her weak attempt at a flirt completely faded into the background for the attention was once against snatched by the Cromwell children and their Quinton victim. It started out harmless, and Victoria had ignored her authority until the Cromwell daughter snarled at another staff member.
Her hand hit the table, not as harshly as she could've done, but enough to startle her daughter into obedience. "Oi!" Victoria fingers curled into the wood. "Olivia Paige, watch your manners."
The bang and yelp were followed by a moment of awkward silence. That's how it usually ended when a child was scolded by a parent. "Seems my children have had enough interaction for the day." She was mostly talking to herself as she gathered herself up and took up what she brought down with her. "We'll say goodnight. Sorry... for all this." She directed the fair caretaker with a nod and a sorry smile.
Victoria's hand touched the back of her daughter's shoulder as she started to shuffle them out of the kitchen without leaving room for delay. "C'mon, let's go. Now." Between Oscar's attitude and Olivia's snark, the mother had had enough and she knew that her employees must've too.
"Goodnight Emma!" She called out quick before leaving the room, but not before sneaking a glance at the butler. Her face fell and her chin lowered as she gave a little wave. Her night, the children's night, it had all been ruined. She could blame her children or the Quinton's, but in the end she blamed Matthew... they would never had been here if it weren't for him.

When the fair haired nanny questioned Oscar to elaborate what he meant, any answer he was thinking of giving was extinguished by the arrival of more people. The butler first, bringing some light-hearted comments, and then the other Estate manager who worked with their mum and Chapin entered the kitchen intent on getting something to eat. Oscar returned his attention to his empty plate in front of him and he shifted uncomfortably in his chair. He had learned talking of this stuff with strangers usually ended up with them looking at you funny.Olivia spoke up then, it was more like an outburst and he raised his head and watched her as let her attitude unleash on the nanny. The more she spoke in clipped tones, Oscar sank down into his chair, and by the time she mentioned listening and watching the house he wanted to shake his head violently at her. Finally their mother had had enough. She smacked the table with her hand and raised her voice to Olivia, and then there was silence. Victoria excused them, and Oscar turned from the table and slid off of his chair. As soon as his feet hit the ground he stumbled a bit around the table. The darkness in his periphery advanced and retreated, and the walls almost looked like they were flexing in and out. His heart rate began to increase and he gasped for air. More than he feared Victoria's wrath, he feared the house's. He wanted to tell them so bad. He wanted to tell them this house....it was....unhappy. But he felt himself being sucked in like the floor was opening beneath his feet to swallow him up if he uttered a word. Then he felt a touch on his head and it all vanished and went back to normal. He felt instantly calm and looked up in surprise to see the hand that rested on his head belonged to the butler. Michael gave him a smile and lifted his hand. Oscar blinked and looked at Victoria and Olivia. This was why he liked being around Michael, he had an energy that was as bright as the sun. Even Victoria seemed to be in a better mood since he entered the kitchen. It was the only time he caught her smiling lately.Addressed: x Mentioned: Everyone in the kitchen Tags: Ellie Piper @patch @aaka2013 @fez Notes: Had to throw some more supernatural stuff in there!
